The Punjab government will undertake projects in the energy sector at a cost of Rs12 billion during the current fiscal 2013-14. “Power generating projects of 200 megawatts (MW) will be executed with public-private partnership,” official sources told the media on Monday.
At present Pakistan is facing shortage of electricity and people have to face worst load-shedding,” sources said, adding that completion of power projects would minimise the intensity of power outages and provide relief to people besides helping the industry.
They pointed out that Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif had already convinced Chinese investors to initiate work on the Nandipur power project besides signing a number of other power generating projects including a 120MW plant at Taunsa Sharif.
“To lessen repercussions of load shedding on agriculture, tube-wells on solar energy are being installed across the province. In this regard a huge amount of Rs 2.36 billion is being spent,” sources said.
