Abduction bid: Woman caught kidnapping newborn

Accused woman was caught by newborn’s family and hospital staffers when she was allegedly trying to kidnap a baby boy.

KARACHI: A woman was caught red-handed while she was trying to escape with a newborn baby from Ziauddin Hospital on Monday. However, she was later released by the police when her family produced medical certificates confirming her psychological illness.

The accused woman was caught by the newborn’s family and hospital staffers when she was allegedly trying to kidnap a baby boy from Ziauddin Hospital within Nazimabad police station limits. Police officials reached the site and took the woman into custody until her family reached the site.

Nazimabad SHO Chaudhry Liaquat told The Express Tribune that the accused woman belongs to a well-educated family. She is a psychological patient and the medical certificates proved that she suffers from a mental illness, he said. The officer further said parent of the baby allowed her to be released.
