Two tribesmen were killed and two others severely injured when their vehicle ran over a landmine planted in Pewar Tangi, upper Kurram Agency, near the Pak-Afghan border on Sunday.
According to an official of the political administration, the tribesmen’s vehicle was en-route to Sadda headquarters from upper Kurram in the afternoon. Reaching Pewar, they ran over an anti-tank mine planted by unidentified militants. The driver Gul Khan, Shaukhat, Sheenbaz and Sarbaz Khan sustained severe injuries and were shifted to Sadda Headquarters Hospital. Tribesmen Sarfaz and Sheenbaz succumbed to their injuries at the hospital.
Their vehicle was completely destroyed in the explosion.
“Militants are planting explosives and mines at roadsides, killing and injuring the civilian population,” said the official. He went on to explain the mines are placed in the ground to target government officials but locals end up triggering them.
