In cold blood: Peace committee member gunned down in Swat

KABAL: A peace committee chief was shot dead in Imam Dherai, Kabal tehsil on Saturday.

According to the Kanju police station, local peace committee chief Badiur Rehman was severely injured when unidentified assailants opened fire at him in Imam Dherai village, the birthplace of Swat Taliban chief Maulana Fazlullah. Rehman succumbed to his injuries on the way to hospital.



Rehman was affiliated with the Awami National Party. His brother was also killed by the Taliban during the military operation in Swat.

According to locals, he was the cousin of Sirajuddin, a high-profile Taliban commander who serves as a spokesperson for the militants in Swat.

Soon after the incident, police and security forces cordoned off the area and started a search operation.

This is the third instance of targeting a peace committee member in the last five days.
