UPPER DIR/ SHERGARH:

Three people were killed and two others injured over “honour” in separate incidents in the province.

In Sheringal in Upper Dir, Sahibabad police official Ahmad Ali said a teenage girl identified as Almania Bibi and her husband Rafiq Khan were killed by her family members on early Thursday morning. Alamania and Rafiq had recently eloped and on late Wednesday night three men barged into their house and opened fire.  Rafiq’s brother Ibrahim, who was injured himself, reported the incident to the police.

In a similar incident in Mardan, a man identified as Gul Nabi shot his wife Laila and her friend in Mohallah Muqbarah. While Laila survived, her friend Ashfaq died.

Shergarh police official Tariq Khan said initial investigations revealed the deceased Ashfaq had an illicit relationship with the wife of the accused. Laila had earlier eloped with Ashfaq and returned to Nabi after two months, following a jirga’s decision.
