KARACHI: Six bandits, including three women, were arrested after a shootout with the police in Shah Faisal Colony late Saturday night.

According to the police, six robbers snatched a taxi at gunpoint and tried to flee. However, the taxi driver managed to inform the police almost at once, who pursued the gang.

The police ordered the escaping criminals to halt but instead the armed men opened indiscriminate fire, injuring five people, including three passers-by.

The police retaliated and shot one of the female robbers. They managed to arrest all six suspects.

The injured people were moved to a nearby hospital.

In another incident, Amir alias Laddu, son of Imam Deen, was killed by unidentified armed men at Mirza Adam Khan Road in the limits of Garden police station.

Twenty-eight-year-old Amir was an alleged member of a gang of bandits and had been released from the Special Investigation Unit three days ago.

Amir had also been arrested in 2000 by the Soldier Bazaar police.

Garden police said that the said deceased was a resident of Koila Godown, Chakiwara. According to them, the motive behind the killing may be personal enmity.

Four of the bandits were identified as Shabana, Shahida Parveen, Irfan and Sajid Ali. SHO Younis Raza Jafferi said, “We followed them and arrested them near Baloch Colony Bridge.”

According to him, Shahida Parveen and Irfan were also wanted by the police in many other cases. An FIR, No 401/9, was registered against Parveen and No 405/9 against Irfan. “We will find out who other members of their gang are after the investigation,” added Jafferi.
