KATLANG: A spell of heavy rain damaged dozens of houses and destroyed crops in low-lying areas of Jabber and Dalasa villages of Katlang tehsil, Mardan on Tuesday.

Due to lack of a proper drainage system in both villages, water from the fields coupled with rainwater inundated the villages, wreaking havoc in its wake. Muhammad Saeed, Sher Bacha, Habib and other locals told journalists their houses collapsed due to heavy rain while several other villagers complained their houses have been partially damaged. “Crops worth millions of rupees have been washed away and the farmers have faced heavy losses,” claimed Faqir Shah Faqir, a village elder. He appealed to the provincial government to send a team to the rain-affected area and to ensure rehabilitation of the villagers.
