The Government College University, Faisalabad (GCUF), will be turned into a model university in terms of research, quality education and training staff, Vice Chancellor Zakir Hussain said on Friday.

He was speaking at a ceremony to celebrate the improvement in the university’s rankings.

Hussain said the GCUF had been ranked the fifth best university by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) in the general varsities category. He said the credit for this belonged to the faculty and researchers.

The VC said the country’s progress depended on education. He regretted that the higher education rate in Pakistan was very low.

He said all possible steps were being taken at the campus to ensure the quality of education imparted was good.

Science and Technology Dean Naureen Aziz Qureshi said most research awards had been won by her faculty.

GCUF Research Director Farhat Abbas said as many as 32 GCUF scientists had won cash awards and certificates awarded by the Pakistan Council of Science and Technology.

The VC distributed cash awards among the best scientists.
