Bid to freedom: Policemen held for escape of UTPs sent on remand

The three policemen who were apprehended for the escape of three under-trial prisoners from the anti-terrorism courts on Thursday have been sent on remand till July 15.

A district and sessions court of judicial magistrate South, Hatim Aziz Solangi, remanded Shakirullah, Muhammad Saeed and Munir Ayub, for three days after they were presented before the court on Friday.


The prisoners - Muhammad Zubair, Ammar Hafeez and Arsalan Shahnawaz - were brought to the ATC complex from Karachi Central Jail for the hearing of their cases. They managed to unlock their handcuffs and escaped from the city’s toiets.

A case, FIR no. 266/2013, was registered against them and the absconders on behalf of the state, under sections 224 (resistance or obstruction by a person to his lawful apprehension) 225 (resistance or obstruction to lawful apprehension of another person) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code at Preedy police station.
