Custodial Death: Protest against youth’s death

FAISALABAD: Scores of people in Haveli Bahadar Shah village on Friday staged a protest demonstration against the police for allegedly torturing a youth to death.

The protestors blocked Jhang Road and demanded that the culprits be immediately arrested.

Muhammad Shafiq, one of the protestors, told the media that Javaid, a resident of Haveli Bahadar Shah, had gone to see a girl when he was caught by her brother. Shafiq said the police arrested Javaid.

He said instead of taking him to a hospital the police tortured him. “Javaid breathed his last in police custody on Tuesday.”

The protest ended when DPO Akram Ali assured the protestors that action would be taken in accordance with the law.

He said SHO Waryam had been suspended and the new SHO would take action against those responsible.
