Civic matters: ‘Allocate funds on the basis of population’

MQM representatives ask provincial government to take 'tehsil' populations in account.

HYDERABAD:

Elected representatives of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) from Hyderabad have asked the provincial government to allocate development funds for the district on the basis of population in its four tehsils.

“Latifabad and city tehsils have more union councils than Qasimabad and Hyderabad rural. The provincial government should allocate funds on the population criteria,” said MNA Syed Waseem Hussain, while talking to reporters outside the commissioner’s office on Thursday.

The Urdu-speaking community is greater in population in the city and Latifabad tehsils, while Sindhis have an overwhelming population in Qasimabad and Hyderabad rural tehsils. Earlier, a delegation of MQM’s MPAs led by Hussain met the commissioner Hyderabad Jamal Mustafa Syed.
