KARACHI: Sohaib Maqsood’s 86-run knock went in vain for Wapda as their crucial Advance Telecom Ramazan T20 Cup Group A match against PIA was washed out due to rain at the National Stadium.

Both teams had to settle for a no-result, taking one point each as the groundsmen failed to fully cover the pitch in time. Even though it had been drizzling on and off, the staff had not been ready to put out the covers till heavy rain broke out and the entire field was covered 10 to 15 minutes later. The delay resulted in the match being called off.

PIA’s chances of now qualifying for the semi-final have increased as they have secured five points from four matches while Wapda have one from three matches. PIA won the toss and opted to bowl first but their strategy backfired as Sohaib’s innings, which included three sixes and 10 boundaries on a pitch that was favouring the bowlers, put Wapda in the driving seat. They ended up with 151 for eight in 20 overs. In reply, PIA made eight for no loss till the second over when the match was called off.
