The government has made preparations to raise Rs3 per unit for residential consumers, while Rs5 per unit for commercial and industrial consumers. Consumers using 300 units or less will be given subsidies.
The application for the price hike was sent to the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) and notification will be issued after the hearing.
The government said that they recently paid back the circular debt and if the electricity prices are not increased then the elimination of loadshedding will not be possible.
This will help the government generate over Rs650 billion revenue.

*is this the soloution to get rid load shedding shame on you mr minister we work hard to elect you in election 2013 and you give this kind of response* how can we run our factories how can we feed our labour plz dont do this do something else for this problem
I think Dr. Tahir Ul Qadri was right "Awan se unn kay Jeenay ka Haq bhe cheen liyya jaye ga"
I hope they raise the electricity price double or triple. People of this land deserve this kind of treatment. Nation who are so obsessed with their brothery system and follow blindly just because of the same zaat worthy of this punishment.
good decision. i would rather pay more as opposed to no electricity at all......
ppl please note the detail consume less than 300 units and get the subsidy the more u consume, the more u pay, in other words richer u are more u pay..
given the state of affairs that ppp left, rise in price of electricity is a natural phenomena. Everybody in the energy sector agrees that to end load-shedding the circular debt should be brought to an end and the only way of doing that is to end the subsidy on electricity.
i think this is the first right step of government towards the end of load-shedding.
First stop the outrageous power theft and inefficiency in WAPDA as well as distribution companies then think about increasing tariff. I think our ministers don't know about their responsibilities but are there only for the authority.
can meet with Ishaq Dar and Khwaja Asif... just to remind them how they used to talk rubbish on television channels on similar actions taken by PPP government?
These guys are living legends of in-competencies !
The govt. of the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh raised power tariff recently. A few consumers have gone to the court with the plea that " give us electricity first and then raise the tariff". Our Pakistani friends can do the same.
This time Government is going to give us ''EIDI'' ...NICE....
It,s means IMF term and conditions are revealing to the public .
All from the pockets of middle and lower class people.Waiting for Khaidim-e-Ala to set up a camp at Minar-e-Pakistan and protest against this brutality like he used to do in PPP government.
I think Official electricity prices in Pakistan r higher than that of US.. they want poor people to pay for the theft of rich ..
