Federal Minister for Industries Ghulam Murtaza Jatoi told news agencies that 13 main items, including atta (flour), ghee, cooking oil, gram pulse, baisen (gram flour), rice and dates would be available on subsidized rates during the holy month of Ramazan under the relief package.
Besides the government subsidy, the Utility Stores Corporation (USC) will sell 1,500 items of everyday use at 5-10 per cent discounted prices, reducing its own profit margin in order to provide relief to the marginalized segments of society, he added.
The minister said that under the Ramazan package, the government would provide Rs120 subsidy on a 20 kg flour bag, which would be available at Rs655 at USC outlets as compared to Rs785 in the open market.
Likewise, the price of ghee would be reduced by Rs40 per kg, cooking oil by Rs30 per liter, gram pulse and baisen by Rs20 per kg each and dates by Rs40 per kg, he added.
Jatoi said that rice basmati would be discounted by Rs30 per kg, tea by Rs130 per kg and milk by Rs11 per kg.
He said that the package would be applicable from Tuesday as the USC outlets in rural areas would remain open every day from 9am to 7pm and from 10am to 10pm in urban areas to facilitate customers.
Besides existing stores, the corporation will provide essential commodities at controlled rates during Ramazan trough mobile outlets and stalls at all Friday and Sunday Bazaars, he added.
He said that arrangements had been made to maintain a smooth supply of good quality commodities during the holy month.
He warned the officers of the USC and the Ministry of Industries of strict action in cases of adulteration, hoarding and insufficient supply.
He said a proper mechanism of check and balance had been put in place to provide items of daily use to the people in a transparent way.
Inspection teams have been formed at zonal levels to take swift action against complaints while vigilance and audit teams also set up at zonal offices will inspect the USC warehouse on a daily basis and report to the head office, he added.
Jatoi said that a complaint cell had been set up the USC head office to address complaints from the customers while an operation cell at the Ministry of Industries would monitor the implementation of the Ramzan relief package.
The minister directed the USC officials to treat the customers politely and provide them the best possible services. He also urged the customers maintain discipline while purchasing items at the USCs.

@Quantum@Yousafhaque, Quantum bahi calculation is right...Here is how it works, 1 millions = 10 Lakhs 1 billions = 100 Million=1000 Lakhs 1 trillions = 100 Billions=10,000 Million=10,00,000 Lakhs=1 Kharab So 2,000,000,000 rupess/180,000,000 population=11 rupess each ,with which you cant buy naswar now a days.
Yes ! Great, print some more of those worthless notes, to please the people for few days !
Let me help you with the maths. May God's angel shower me with more intelligence :)
2,000,000,000 / 180,000,000 ~= 11.11
@Ek Tha Kashmiri::::Your figure of Rs.111/- per head is quite interesting, but when I tried to verify it I got boggled up in my calculations. Will you please tell me how many are a billion rupees. Is it one million million or one thousand million or something else?,and what is the population of Pakistan (160 or 180 or 200 million or what) among whom that amount will be distributed? Please help me if you can, because my math is very poor,I keep getting strange amounts.God bless
IMF is subsidizing Ramadan :) Wow that's a news. Will they also provide clean water fund for "RoohAfza" ?
Don't thank government, thank IMF.
@Kaleem. Government has put up hefty taxes on educated class specially teachers, researchers who ironically were already paying up their taxes.Your idea of a prosperous Pakistan is grossly misunderstood.I am doing my PhD on a European funded project and I don't know whether I will be able to even live comfortably and meet my expenses if I return back, that after studying for almost 20 years.I am one of the few who pay taxes and have their NTN in a country where 90%,specially industrialist, landlords, parliamentarian don't even know what NTN is. All this, so that we could sponsor scams like Qarz Utaro Mulk sanwaro, yellow cab, sasti roti and to keep Bhutto alive.
@Kaleem: You act yourself and try to change your own faith. If successful, we will follow you. While discouraging gossips, you're engaging in the gossips of highest order in the impractical world.
@Ek tha Kashmiri: Nice name first of all. If you want further reliefs, please encourage everyone to work hard for a prosperous pakistan, Govt does not encourage us to do corruption, it does not encourage us not to study hard and waste time in gossips, it does not encourage us not to pay taxes. Lets get our act together to change our fate.
What a waste. Like sasti roti scheme this scheme will also be lost to corruption.
Fabulous 2 Billion rupees divided by 180 million=111 rupees each pakistanies.Congratulation to wise nation of Pakistan and Ramadan Mubarak.
