According to reports, party chairman Imran Khan in a meeting with the Central Executive Committee (CEC) had asked Chief Minister Khattak to relinquish his party position as the PTI manifesto did not allow for anyone to hold two portfolios.
Khattak though had dismissed the reports, claiming they were baseless, and that members of the CEC had shown their support for him.
This was followed by an official statement by PTI's central media cell which stated that the news report was “misleading and baseless”.
However, Deputy General Secretary PTI and Media Adviser to Imran Khan, Imran Ismail confirmed to The Express Tribune that the developments were true.
“The media reports in connection to the CEC are correct,” Ismail said.
He further added that that it was not just the Chief Minister who was holding more than one office.
The report published earlier had stated that Khattak had preferred his position within the party over the slot of the Chief Minister of the province.
The matter has also been severely debated in the recently concluded session of the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa assembly.
While the party members have protested over allotment of tickets for the by-elections to be held on the August 22, blaming its leadership of nepotism, the recent developments are going to be a challenging time for the newly elected government in K-P as well the party who is now part of the parliament.

@sadia: Seriously? the problem of downfall of muslims has never been 'Yahoodis' but muslims themselves. They are just an excuse, and you are one such bigot. Did yahoodis vote-in corrupt and inept people to run this country? you people did, and now enjoy. IK made tall claims and now he is going to pay a price for not delivering - so he runs off to UK to get fresh instructions (from non-yahoodi lobby).
@haroon:*How come each and every thing regarding PTI, specially internal matters, makes headlines on ET?* It's not between a husband and wife affair. It's about a party who claimed to clean sweep Pakistan, so every Pakistani can peep into its matter. Learn to face the reality.
PTI ON NERVES OF PML(N) No yard stick for PML(N) - Doing everything by hooks and by crooks and for PTI tight string to walk on - Thanks for setting such HIGH STANDARD FOR PTI. Theres is no problem in holding dual office as per PTI CONSTITUTION but PTI always strive for BETTER and rest assure will settle this within couple of days (ONCE AGAIN WOULD BE DISAPPOINTMENT FOR OPPONENTS)
@sadia: PML-N is a much mature party and they will not react on newspapers, the way PTI supporters do. You should also learn few lessons.
Why ET keeps all the happenings, even the small ones in PTI under a microscope. Surprising, no investgative news items on millions of pounds of money laundering allegations on the MQM chief..
@Corrupt: My dear. don't you know that corruption has already been wiped out in KPK, and there is no corruption in KPK right now. It has been revealed to me by a PTI worker, who I think has been informed by some angel from the heaven. Cheeeeeeeer.
"I Told you so" ...I feel like Sheldon Cooper, infact Dr Sheldon Cooper.
Can any one tell me how many days are left out of 90 manic days for elimination of corruption in KPK?
et will never spare a single moment to bash pti!!
@Mirza:
well said! This is what hattack will follow! Ik will learn to know how he Pashtuns govern! No one governs over them!!
Rex Minor
Imran ran off to uk because he does not want to be a part of the National Security Council to be held on july 12th. The National Security Council is most likely to decide to go after taliban thugs, which imran being their well-wisher and brother, does not want to be seen as a part of consensus that will harm taliban interests.
@sadia: "again Yahoodi backed ET only focusing on PTI. What about PML-N?"
*Sadia sahib, If it would have been backed by Yehood and Hinood, then neither yours nor mine any comments would have been posted here, at least not mine, because my each and every comment is dipped with reality, against all kind of GHAIRAAT BRIGADES. I thank to all girls and boys at ET to allow me to be heard and THEY DO *
PTIans are just a bunch of sore losers! All they have got to say to this is " ET, why not write about N?" The reason why they keep highlighting such news is the false promises that Imran Khan made and which the PTI supporters keep believing. It is established that PPP, PML, MQM are corrupt parties so does that justify such actions in PTI?
Dear ET Nawaz Sharif is out PM FM and defense minister and he is also president of PMLN .. Shahbaz Sharif is CM punjab + 4 other ministries + he is President PMLN Punjab .. kindly forgive PTI .... we will request KPK govt to allocate some funds for journalists from next budget .. Thanks
Headline was distasteful..
This is a news or opinion of the author. Why it is not in opinion section or blog section? News should be based on facts and not on just assumptions
I just can't understand ET's obsession with PTI.
It seems like the KP PTI chapter is out of sync with the party leadership. First it was the question of Education Ministry (which according to some reports was conceded by Khattak to JI inspite of education being a critical part of the party manifesto) then the current issue of dual positions being held and top it off (assuming it's true) with the reports of the possibility of PPP joining the government coalition in KP.
Shireen Mazari as Information Secretary of PTI came up with a conventional argument this evening in a talk show that it does not matter if the son-in-law of KPK CM is getting a ticket to contest NA-1 by elections. What matters is that he is a political asset and the decision to award him the ticket would rest upon the voters of the constituency who would decide whether to vote for him or not.
Come to think of it, isn't this is the same school of thought to which PML-N and PPP is also subscribed? Its up to the voters to decide whether they want to elect Maryam, Hamza, Bakhtawar, Asifa and Bilawal or not. Who is the cotton picking world is IK to cry on top of his lungs about Family Ltd. parties when his own turn coat CM is making a mockery of his chairman's lopsided ideology.
The speaker of any assembly cannot be a party leader at the same time. The speaker has to be neutral and choose one post. This is not partisan politics but against all democratic norms, ethics and traditions. This is wrong and it is not about PTI or IK but a wrong act by the speaker of the assembly. The CM can remain the head of the party that is not against the democratic rules and an internal affair of PTI, but speaker has to choose one post not both.
We can probably intervene and protect KP from this fiasco .. I'm just glad PTI is not running the whole country! what utter shambles.
I'm amazed at some of the reasons being given by the PTI Supporters on this. Here's some of them :
And let me tell u...If PK will leave party office...It will be disastrous...We know how much fierce intra party elections were.. PK having party office will keep him involve in party...Otherwise a new battle will emerge that who is more powerful after IK..SG or CM? Plus PK as SG will not let any forward block against him.If we r so much concerned for PTI.
Made me LOL They forget that somewhat similar reasons were also given by Zardari over the past 5 years when it was demanded that he must resign from the party position.
Then they say we are not blind followers :)
How come each and every thing regarding PTI, specially internal matters, makes headlines on ET?
@Silas: The problems are endless. People need break.
The governments are made to rule and they are doing the same thing, what else is wrong in it. This is the ground reality whether one believes or not. The voters have shown confidence in him, inside and outside parliament, than why other people are jealous with them. Khatak do what ever you want, voters are with you. Be A True CM, not a personal servant to IK and media.
The rift in PTI KPK chapter is not confined to the issue of dual office. The CM and speaker kpk assembly are trying to make PTI as family limited party by avoiding party tickets to their kit and kin in the by-elections, an attempt to which the founding members of the party are strongly opposed. It was a big surprise for the PTI workers when the provincial leadership showed keenness to award NA-1 peshawar ticket to Mr. Jamaluddin who is an Afghan refugee holding Pak CNIC

I think KPK leadership might be over-estimating their position because of being surrounded by sycophants (as happens to all people in power). They got the vote on IK's image. Kicking off confrontation with PTI central leadership and specially IK is not going to bode well for them specially since KPK govt performance is already being questioned by certain quarters.
BASELESS NEWS!! Alert Alert ET is turning into a tabloid from a newspaper
This is a show of self-interest vs. self-interest; first Javaid Hashmi vs. Imran Khan, then Fauzia Qasuri vs. PTI / IK, then Fauzia Qasuri vs. Asad Omer, and Fauzia Qasuri vs. Shireen Mazari and now PTI Fed. vs. PTI Provincial KP. Sems like in there every is pitched against everyone else. My guess is with all these forces working against PTI would soon succeed in ripping the party apart from its seams. Tch, Tch, Tch!
It is about time that, Khattak Sahib resigns from his party seat & should be concentrate more on his position as CM of KPK, because such issues are only creating a negative vibe for the party & will eventually create issues for the party on national/international fronts.
So PTI is going to break as two parties !
i don,t understand whats the problem with ET because yesterday they publish fake news about fauzia kasuri resignation and now they have publish another fake news on PTI. PTI have Officially have stated that there are no differences over dual office of KP ministers http://www.insaf.pk/News/tabid/60/articleType/ArticleView/articleId/16607/PTI-rejects-baseless-news-about-differences-over-dual-office-of-KP-ministers.aspx
4th news of the day about PTI on ET. You guys are obsessed with PTI and Imran Khan, dont you?
again Yahoodi backed ET only focusing on PTI. What about PML-N?
Why is kaptaan even leaving? Has his party solved all the problems of KPK?
in imran khan we trust
I implore IK to release a white paper on this as well.
Seems like this newspaper can't live without saying something about PTI for 2 hours. Who cares about PIA, Railawys, Loadshedding, Chairman NAB!
I stand with the federal PTI on this. Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister should immediately resign from his party position and focus entirely on his job of CM. Hopefully the matter will be resolved soon. I hope we won't see these kind of discussions in future.
almost two months into the government and still no concrete steps taken in kp. infighting and lack of initiative will break pti's back, notwithstanding imran khan's personal appeal
