AMRITSAR: A UK rights activist and advocate intends to move the International Court of Justice (ICJ) to inquire into the status of Indian prisoners of war (PoWs) held in Pakistani jails, Times of India reported.

Jas Uppal, who is based out of UK, accuses past Indian governments for neglecting the Indian PoWs held in Pakistan, and intends to move the ICJ in a bid to pressurise the Pakistan government into sharing more information on the prisoners.

"Pakistan authorities should have kept the records of Indian PoWs under the rule of Geneva Conventions and it is the duty of Indian government to find out what had happened to the captured Indian army soldiers in Pakistan," says Uppal.

The report added that the ‘Missing Defense Personals Relative Association’ had submitted a list of 54 PoWs along with proof of their presence in Pakistan to the Pakistani government. The Pakistan government, though, has officially denied holding PoWs.

"This is not the answer and it certainly should not have been accepted by the successive governments of India, to do so, is to deny that these brave men in uniform were ever born, this would have never happened in the West. "

Uppal, who ran the ‘Free Sarabjit Singh’ campaign online, claims she has been contacted by many families who believe their relatives are held as PoWs in Pakistan.

“I have been contacted by a number of families of Indian PoWs - some from the official list of the 54 Indian PoWs and families of others who are not on the official list.”

Not having the license to practice in India, Uppal plans to have a colleague move the case through Indian courts over to the ICJ.

please a damn "SERIOUS" request to my third word citizens that we must overcome the theories of fascism its ruining our societies, . we all are south Asians and we need to follow the science of economics and a proper mechanism and ideology of a society in order to have a common economic corridor to resolve the meaningless disputes... being a common man isn't its our right to educate our children in the schools of our land? isn't its our right to act as commoners and stay upright in demand of public services... i guess media may or may not be playing an important role science they are bound with the science of economics. the funding of other countries is not appropriate in towards a veil of development ..its about social scientific expertise to let us know to how to maintain our native heritage and hence develop economics...pakistan is suffering from sanction hence their stock exchange will never grow ... why shouldn't it be???....everything is interconnect like science just like our human DNA ...we must understand that int he age of rocket science why are we fighting over nonsense and obsolete issues..today society have access to science which mean a logical thinking ...why this backwardness, when science refutes us...meaning of Pakistan remains clear in its flag which is that they are secular modern south asian muslim which are in lieu with science hence they had a score to develop and not burn into radicalism it was and it still is adament in term of hindu radicalization goin in india with thousands of social scientific examples ...a vast definition of that... but i know ET will never publish it ... coz they are fascist too ..i don't intent to harm anybody's feeling just just sharing my thoughts..thats it

Vishal Kaul | 11 years ago | Reply Pakistani authority always shown negative response on issue of prisoners at the time of partition Indian authority do good work on recovering of kidnapped Muslim girls and children's and handover to Pakistan. But Pakistani authority never any good response. In the time of war and after it pakistani authority show cruelty against Indian pow .prisoners of India live in Pakistani jails as as a sheep who live in a abattoir. India show mercy every pow of any country if they belong Pakistan also .Indian fisherman also in pak jails by pak authority so don't blame India for arrest pak fisherman's our human right record about pow is better than Pakistan the example 90000 pow prisoners free by India . Like this act never done by country in history.
