The target of the attack was Malik Habibullah Khan, however, he was not in his vehicle at the time of the explosion.
Malik’s brother Abdullah, who was driving the pick-up, was killed along with two other family members. Three pedestrians lost their lives and 10 bystanders were injured in the blast.
At the site of the attack, DPO Sajjad Khan told journalists the suicide bomber was on a motorcycle looking to target Malik Habibullah Khan. The tribal elder had been receiving threats from militants but was not in his pick-up at the moment of the attack.
Several shops and vehicles were also damaged in the explosion.
This is not the first time that Hangu and its neighbouring areas has faced a terrorist attack in a public area. Earlier today, unidentified armed men allegedly kidnapped a man from Karbogha Sharif in Hangu district on Sunday.

We stand by the nation of Pakistan during these testing times. The terrorists continue to claim innocent lives in their bid to destabilize the nation. It would be safe to say that their terrorist operations have spread throughout the country. We just witnessed an act of terror in Old Anarkali's food street area of Lahore on Saturday, killing at least three people and injuring 37 others. The seriousness of the situation requires us to remain unified against the enemies of peace, and refrain from indulging in conspiracy theories that let these terrorists off the hook. We repeat what Jen Psaki, Department of State Spokesperson, said recently:”The United States stands with the people of Pakistan in condemning such senseless and inhumane acts [recent bombings]. We offer our deepest condolences to the families of those killed and wish those injured a speedy recovery.”

This is exactly what I said in my comment elsewhere in ET just 3 days ago. It is easier to install taliban regime in Pakistan than in Afghanistan as there is lot more support for talibans in Pakistan. Imran Khan and Maulana both say the same ......"Suicide bombing in Afghanistan is allowed per Islam". Also, look at the questions ECP was asking its candidates, for instance on Islamic rituals of preparing dead bodies for burial. Pakistan is far more talabinzed than Afghanistan today. In any newspaper in Pakistan you will read words like Islam, Muslims, shahria, etc., mentioned 100 times every day, probably 10 times more than in newspapers of Afghanistan.

Normal Parents do not send their children to these places ! This is a myth and those who do send them are simply too poor and unable to raise or feed them, and lure Madrassas ! Then its all down hill with their wisdom ! How many Madrassas were there in Pakistan before 1975 ? I assure you very very few, and they simply started to mushroom during Zia's days, as he was too busy chasing the Saudi money ! But sadly there was always a price to pay for that money, introduction of their form of Islam ! Wahabism, the rest one can see today as to the state of Pakistani society and its intolerance or basic reasons for this ! This is a society, which basically have become sheep's ! Follow the leader ! Blindly ! The problem was then and as it is now, that the state has neglected the basic facilities to its people ! Hence the crowded Madrassas and their wisdom installed in young minds ! That there thousand virgins awaiting them in paradise ! Such fools , leading other fools ! If that was the case, than How come the Clergy has not decided to go there first ?
Sorry to say this , but this holds true for all islamic countries . Parents send their kids to Madrasas and there Maulavis inject religious venom into their mind .They teach them the superiority of their religion and the definition of Jihad . Girls are being bared to interact with males and males of other religion . Now condition is such that Sunnis can't tolerate Shiites and Ahmadis , leave alone other religion . Archaic Islamic laws are given importance in stead of modern secular laws . Religious conversions are now a part of prime time shows . When you shout about TTP , you should understand that they are part of your society . SO why are you shouting ?
What is our army doing for North Waziristan? There is a suicide bomber university there and more and more people are enrolling there. They get mad when US drones the place but what are they doing to get rid of this brainwashing uni?
Can Pakistan solve this problem of internal terrorism ? Yes it can be solved if these is a strong will at the top and army is on board. If film maker Ms Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy can reach schools of suicide bombers, certainly the intelligence agencies too can find out them all. In my view the Pakistani government and its institutions are more than capable of solving this problem. Irrespective of how much support these terrorists might be getting from outside, Pakistani state is capable enough to annihilate them completely. What another one ! Nothing new here, as this has become a daily event ! Just what is the Mighty Army doing ? They are not even capable of taking care of their own people anymore, and yet they brag about their ability and chew up a large part of budget too !
