KARACHI: Discarded Pakistan fast-bowler Shabbir Ahmed made his presence felt as his five-wicket haul helped UBL defeat PIA by four wickets in the Ramazan T20 Cup match yesterday.

Shabbir rattled PIA after they had opted to bat first, taking two early wickets and then claiming three in one over towards the end as PIA struggled to 129 for nine in 20 overs.

Faisal Iqbal made a run-a-ball 48, while Sarfaraz Ahmed chipped in with 23 with three boundaries.

In reply, UBL were helped by experienced batsman Faisal Athar who guided the team past the finish line with an unbeaten 38 in the final over.

In the late-night match on Saturday, Shoaib Malik helped PIA to a nine-wicket win against State Bank.

Set a target of 155, PIA chased it in 17.4 overs courtesy a 115-run opening stand between Malik, who remained not out on 58, and Agha Sabir, who made a superb 65.
