Abdul Haseem Khan scored twice while Aamir Shazad, Abbas Haider Bilgrami, Mohammad Waqas and Mohammad Rizwan scored one goal each.
Waqas opened the scoring through a penalty corner in the 22nd minute at half-time, putting Pakistan in a 1-0 lead at the end of half time.
Goals from Khan, Shazad, Bilgrami and Rizwan early in the second half strengthened Pakistan's position.
South Africa fought back and scored two back to back goals through Timothy Drummond and Lloyd Norris-Jones towards the end of the second half but could not break Pakistan's momentum, who scored once again before full time to make it 6-2 at full time.
Pakistan had been knocked out by Korea in the quarterfinals while hosts Malaysia beat them to fifth place 3-1 on Saturday.
Pakistan must now win the Asia Cup to qualify for the Hockey World Cup in 2014.

@xzoko: "watching Pakistan lose ever single time"
Clearly you dont watch hockey enough. In this tournament alone, Pakistan played a total of 6 games and lost only two.
In the past 7 months Pakistan also had a podium finish at 3 out of their last 4 tournaments. While they didnt finish in the top 3 at Azlan Shah, they took Bronze in both the 9-a-Side Super Series, Bronze at the FIH Champions Trophy (among 8 of the worlds top teams) and also Gold at the Asian Champions Trophy in December. They are ranked at number five not because of their 50 year long history, but because of their recent performance that other teams still fear.
Its the same group of boys. And the same management. They might have good tournaments and then poor performances but their high performance always outweighs their losses, you just don't recognise them near as enough as opportunities of flak against them.
Poor form to the so called hockey supporters then.
I can't believe after watching Pakistan lose every single time I still watch hockey perhaps its love of the game after all its an amazing game but I can't imagine to support our hockey team again if they keep on doing this . And yes anything other than no.1 is same as losing
Congratulations!
