The government of Sindh has said that it will play the role of ‘mediator’ between the people of Kutchi and Baloch communities to help overcome their differences to bring back peace to Lyari.
Speaking to The Express Tribune, the district South deputy commissioner, Jamal Mustafa Qazi, said that representatives of both communities will meet at his office in the presence of elected representatives of the PPP.
President Asif Ali Zardari reportedly arrived in Karachi on Friday to preside over a law and order meeting particular in reference to Lyari.
‘Forces at play’
Not wishing to disclose the name of any person or party, the deputy commissioner said that there was a third force which had created a rift between the Kutchi and Baloch communities.
Kutchi leader Hussain Kutchi maintained, however, that peace in Lyari was not possible until the law enforcement agencies retrieved their areas.
Qazi had, however, a different opinion, saying that leaders of the Kutchi community were not cooperating with the government. They did not point out the sensitive areas where Rangers could be deployed, he said.
Sindh information minister Sharjeel Inam Memon said that the government had neither “dumped” nor ignored the people of Lyari which remained a stronghold of the PPP. “Action will start at midnight on Friday.”

It seems the DC is biased in favour of PAC and taking direct dictation from Mirza. The only solution is army operation.
What was Lyari like before 2008?
the best of Zulfiqar Mirza and ANP under the directive of sweet & sour Zardari is now at its best in Lyari,Arming huge segment of society(500000 arm license) then calling for a peace will not be there. This was done to relegate MQM strength.
Kutchis are Sindhis (Kutch was part of Sindh which went to India) and Baloch (Sindhi Baroch) are Sindhis. Kutchi language is a dialect of Sindhi language.
They should stop fighting amongst each other.
Mediator? May I remind that establishing your writ is your first responsibility, my dear Sindh government? You might also like to check the respected local 'leadership', supported by your good self, who openly states in an interview to a national paper that since they don't want to mess with rangers (unlike poor policemen who got killed), rangers should leave Lyari.
Hahaha does it bring shame to the govt of sindh and president of ppp that they play a role of mediator between gangs of uzair Baloch and innocent people ? How silly , their role should be to arrest those people who fire rockets in the metropolitan city.
Like Sindh Govt. has a choice.
