Karachi will taste at least some T20 action as the Pakistan Cricket Board’s first (PCB) Ramazan T20 Cup begins at the National Stadium today.

The opening match will see HBL and UBL vying for an early advantage in the tournament, followed by the PIA-State Bank encounter.

A total of 10 teams, divided in two groups, are participating in the tournament, which is the first of its kind organised by the PCB in Ramazan.

Group A includes HBL, PIA, Wapda, State Bank and UBL while Group B comprises of SNGPL, Port Qasim, ZTBL, NBP and KRL.

A prize money of Rs2 million awaits winners while the runners-up will get Rs1 million.

Four individual awards worth Rs50,000 will be given to the best batsman, bowler, all-rounder and man-of-the-final. The PCB has also decided to award Rs500 for each six, while Rs25,000 for the man-of-the-match.

In addition, the players who hit the highest number of sixes and fours in the semi-finals and final will receive Rs25,000 each, while a similar award will be given for the highest number of wickets and catches.

Only regional players can play as guest players

When asked about the issue of teams playing a guest player – who usually is a star name – the PCB said that those employed by other departments cannot be included.

“Players employed with other departments, even a grade-II team, won’t be allowed to appear as guest players,” a senior PCB official told The Express Tribune. “However, regional players can appear as guest so.”

Meanwhile, there will be no free entry for public. A ticket for the VIP enclosures will cost Rs100, while the regular enclosures will cost Rs50.
