Mohammad Siddique got off to a flying start, firing a five-under-par 67, to take the lead on the opening day of the Sindh Open Golf Championship that teed off yesterday at the Arabian Sea Country Club.
Siddique was impressive in the inaugural round that saw some of the leading title-contenders struggling in breezy conditions.
Siddique was followed by Ansar Mehmood, Mohammad Ashfaq and Javed Inayat who scored three-under-par 69 for joint second spot.
Tournament favourite Shabbir Iqbal ended up joint 13th with a card of one-under-par 71, while defending champion Mohammad Afzal suffered a shaky start and registered a one-over to share 36th place.
Pakistan number two Matloob Ahmed, another title contender, also had a bad start as the experienced golfer leaned with two-over to end the first round among the bottom-placed participants.
