KARACHI:

Pakistan Women levelled the two-match Twenty20 series against their England counterparts after registering a narrow one-run win in the second match yesterday.

After going down by 70 runs earlier in the day, Pakistan Women were able to make a spirited comeback to record their first win against England during the ongoing UK tour.

A slightly improved performance with the bat saw Pakistan make 116 for eight in the allotted overs with Nain Abidi and Sana Mir standing out with notable contributions. Pakistan were then able to dismiss England for 115 on the final ball of the innings.

Needing 13 off the final over, Bismah Maroof contained England, taking a wicket off her first delivery before a run-out off the final ball meant the series was levelled.

Earlier, Abidi (45) and Mir (31) helped Pakistan register a somewhat decent total after a pathetic display in the first Twenty20.

In the earlier encounter, also played at the Haslegrave Ground, Loughborough, England Women put up an all-round show to thrash Pakistan by 70 runs.

Having already lost the One-Day International (ODI) series 2-0, the visitors hardly showed any improvement as they went down without a fight.

After winning the toss, England compiled a competitive total of 145 for seven.

In reply, Pakistan suffered a nightmarish start and were reduced to 23 for five with the match potentially over as a contest. They avoided being dismissed but managed just 75 for six in the allotted quota.
