Earlier in the day, a man was killed while five others were injured when police and extremists of Lyari opened fire at the protestors and threw a hand grenade on Mauripur Road, Karachi.
The police and rangers disappeared from the scene immediately after that, but the extremists residing in the area kept on firing and shelling the protestors and took advantage of the situation and threw a hand grenade.
The protestors, who were residents of Lyari, were taking the dead body of one of the residents, who was killed a day ago in an encounter between the security forces and the extremists, to the Chief Minister Sindh House.
The police stopped them and negotiated with them. Eventually protestors agreed to bury the deceased and offer the funeral prayers. However, soon after police used water canon to disperse the demonstrators and opened fire.
Police opened fire at the protestors for no reason, said one of the witnesses.
On the other hand, Police claimed that they opened fire at the demonstrators because they took the wrong route, which was leading towards the CM House.
So far only four injured have been taken to the hospital out of the six.

The police is acting like Israeli forces open fire on the peaceful protesters of Palestine. PPP waderas stop this dirty game, you want to grab karachi by the help of these gangesters and want to make citizens of karachi like your " poor oppressed harees ". But all such conspiracies can back fire ! MQM please divert your attention from London to Karachi and Sindh and raise strong voice for our protection.
@Pakistani: My apologies, will try to be more careful in the future

ET is a biased NP Sometime
who gave right to the police to open fire on protesters? even if they(protesters) were going to the route of CM house.
The "Amn" committee gangsters want their right to loot, extort and kill people be totally protected from any interruption from any law enforcement agency. The wadera government has created this menace to loot Karachi with even greater ferocity
@Ayesha M: You stole my words.
Must agree with Nabeel Gabol previously issued statement; Lyari indeed has been Hijacked by "Extremists of Lyari" aka PAC. Even PPP govt has no choice but to bow down to them.
Living in kabul is much safer than karachi. We have to settle in kabul...
ROFL so Express Tribune is too afraid of naming Lyari gangsters and Peoples Aman Committee and started a new term Extremists of Lyari for them. Dear ET is fear in the only reason or money is also playing a role in introducing this new term? Hope ET will allow my comments to be publish
Close Karachi for a week, enforce curfew... BUT CLEAN Karachi in ONE GO.. We can't afford daily killings and protest.. Security agencies whatever u want to do in Karachi, do in ONE GO....
Khamoshi Jurm Hai.....
The city people are watching all this very peacefully and quietly. People including children and women are being killed on daily basis in the city and we are just watching all this from our home windows.
All would be questioned on the day of judgement why didn't we raised our voices against the injustice, killings of the oppressed people.
If our religious parties can raise voice for myanmar, palesine, afghanistan etc. then why are they not raising voice for innocent muslim killings of their own city?
"Extremists of Lyari"? There's a thing called editorialising...
All that is happening in Lyari is courtesy of Zulfiqar Mirza
Mauripur road is a business artery of Karachi and any violence on that road causes delays costing Millions to the country. So one can easily understand that it is intentional and somebody is trying to play lyari card in Karachi to hamper business activities.
