KARACHI: The Board of Directors of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) were reconstituted on Wednesday.
A statement said that in accordance with Pakistan International Airlines Corporation Act 1956, the federal government has reconstituted the Board of Directors of PIA with immediate effect.
It said that the nominated members of the newly constituted board includes Aslam Khaliq, Naseer NS Jaffer, Mian Muhammad Mansha, Arif Habib, Sarfraz A Rehman, Imran Khan, Muhamamd Ali Gardezi, Secretary Aviation, Ex-Officio and Dr Waqar Masood Khan, Secretary Finance, Ex-Officio.
Bogged down by financial losses, PIA has become a bone of contention for successive governments. World’s highest employee to aircraft ratio, fiscal leakages and excessive interference of unions in management affairs has made it a difficult-to-run state-owned organisation.

Why bailouts. Sell the airline otherwise soon 100 billions a year would go to the airline.
PIA Board reconstituted. Unfortunatly favouritism has been prevailed. No representation from the Provinces in the new Board. PIA can not claim to be a national carrier.
Imran khan who is the owner of Pepsi in Pakistan. He is close friend of the new Civil Aviation Adviser to the Prime Minister, Mr. Shujaat Azeem. What a move to put him on the board!!! Already corruption is visible in this new set up and Ministry.
Mian Muhammad Mansha has always been the front man of the mian brothers. Cronyism at its worst.
Ufffff! Mian Mansha...Nice!! They should privatize it in the coming 2, 3 years.
@JUNAID: Don't hold your breath.
INSHALLAH with the true sprit of workmanship under refined managment this Airline once again shine as a flag carrier of Pakistan, Important factor that morals of Employees need to be rebuild specially front line team leaders i.e Engineering and Flight Operation,customer service.
.......the answer is to privatise it. The fact that PIA has been run and will keep on running like a provincial CM's fleet of cars (no control - no accountability), will never change. This reshuffle of directors is just window dressing in order to avoid taking the hard decision.
This is a good change made by the PMLN government in improving the situation of bleeding PSE (Public Sector Enterprise). Various business personalities have been nominated on the BOD regardless of their political affiliation. Stock broker Arif Habib is MQM member and Sarfaraz A Rahman is a die-heart supporter of PTI but he has successful launch of Engro Foods as a feather in his cap. His induction on the BOD proves that people have been selected on merit by the PMLN. We are happy that merit is finally back in Pakistan!
Which Imran Khan?
