In a BBC interview, General Sher Mohammad Karimi had said Pakistan could end the Afghan war “in weeks” if it were serious about peace.
The foreign office said the allegations that Pakistan “controls” the Taliban and has “unleashed” them on Afghanistan have no basis and we reject them categorically.
“Pakistan has exercised extreme restraint in the face of highly provocative language used by the Afghan civil and military officials over the last few months, not to mention some totally fabricated accusations,” the statement said.
“Such comments also reflect insincerity on the part of some elements in Afghan government. On the specific request of the Afghan leadership itself, Pakistan has been fully supportive of the reconciliation process. Our concrete steps to facilitate this process, are well known,” it added.
The foreign office statement stressed that Pakistan will not be deterred in its efforts to support the international community’s efforts to bring peace and stability to Afghanistan.
“We would, however, hope that the Afghan officials would refrain from levelling baseless allegation and work towards creating a conducive environment that helps advance the shared objectives of peace, stability and prosperity,” it said.

I dont believe the nature of this news article asks anyone to think what Pakistan should focus on.
The question created is what Afghanistan should focus on ?
Specially at such times when their leaders and generals have no actual power over their land/people and the only thing they can think up of is Pakistan.
Until these Afghanis were refugees , they roamed around free in Pakistan waiting for their Canadian and US visas.
They forget that the reason that Afghanis are earning dollars and pounds overseas is that their neighbor Pakistan allowed them in and let them fly out.
Even the Muslims of Pakistan have regards for people in India likewise Hindus in India have regard for people in Pakistan.
But these Afghanis , the ones fed up with their history and its child the Taliban , they are ungrateful liberal fanatics who think that the world will help them TRANSFORM into some modern country in a few years.
They havent yet realized that it takes decades easily.
So the least they should do is to start having peaceful and NICE relations with Pakistan.
But still , I wish you all the right and pleasure to dream on ....;)
What an ungrateful nation!! While millions of their country men have enjoyed the sanctuary provided by this country, their leaders spew venom and hate. Millions of Afghanis have become millionaires, controlling the transport and other vital sectors, yet I have never seen anyone come and defend this country.
Perhaps we will learn our lessons that you can never ever be sure when your pet snake will diss you!!
@Asif Butt: Yes but it does help to have reality check, when you wake up, as dreams only occur while one sleeps, not when one is awake. That's called day dreaming and living in illusional cocoon, which sadly does not really help or provide anything ! Pakistan should focus on solving its own multiple issue on hand, rather than being concerned about its neighbours, god knows that are plenty of issues GOP/ARMY have on hand ranging from provide basic security, healthcare, law & order, education, social services, electricity etc..... the list goes on !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What a logic General Sher Mohammad Karimi, Pakistan which is frontline state against war on terrorism, sacrificed more than 40000 civilians and military personals just to bring peace in your country. We, people of Pakistan gave the refuge to your 3 million refugees. We fought yours battle and we are suffering from it. Pakistan is the only state which is affected because of insurgencies from your country. You are failed to counter the Taliban and you blame Pakistan for it, what a shame. On the other hand you are having talks with them and still you consider Pakistan responsible. Who else stood beside you when you were under chaos? It was not India, it was Pakistan and remember it.
pakistan has been a true friend of Afghanistan and we should appreciate their efforts to bring peace and stability in afghanistan

Yes, you are right but the dominant influence is the other way round. It is the Taliban that is influencing Pakistan and may very soon get in control of big tracts of its territory.

@ModiFied: I am always amused that so many Indians jump to explain and defend anything said by their Afghan proteges. It remains clear that Afghanistan is nothing more than a puppet state of India but unfortunately the world sits idly as India uses Afghanistan as a base to conduct criminal acts against Pakistan. Even when US Defense Secretary confirmed India's role in Afghanistan to cause trouble for Pakistan, Indians refuse to admit their own guilt. They have been at it since the British left the region in 1947.
The best euphemism the US and NATO uses about Pak's relationship with the Afghan Taliban...they have...'considerable influence'.

I believe this is a very good sign for the future, With the exit of NATO the Americans will only become the side player and we will have to see who the Pakistani Army will blackmail using the Taliban. The Indians do not want to deploy their Army but want to cry foul when the Americans leave after all the Audiance back home in USA are becoming more uneasy by the day because it is not America's war anymore. Why reject the notion of the outsider when Pakistan Government continualy states that its army has full control on the autonomous tribal territories; whereas the Afghan Government has never calimed having control of the so called border region area on their side?

Anybody who has followed the events over past couple of decade in regards to this are too well aware as to the reality, that its in the interest of Pakistan to have unstable Afghanistan and incidentally who created Taliban ? Pakistan has never really been very smart with its policies in regards to its neighbours and region as whole, over past few decades, hence they even managed to loose half of the nation too ! Now at present, if proper action is not taken, than they are likely to be overwhelmed by the extreme right groups and possibly implode from within !

Pakistan has credibility deficit. When army chief negotiates with Mr Kerry regarding Qatar office and attempting to provide respect to Taliban in international community clearly suggests its influence over Taliban. We have seen these denial before with other non state actors and these easy deniability were incorporated when official policy to support Taliban was formulated. One hundred lies are not equal to one truth.
Pakistan needs to treat Afghanistan as India treat Nepal and Bhutan, than they will become straight like an arrow.
Elsewhere in this paper he claims Pakistan is complicit in drone strikes on the very Taliban it controls.....I suppose if you are in charge of the big business called reststructuring Afghanistan you do not wan't to say goodbye to the billions of US dollars coming your way.

How can these be base less accusations when we all know that Quetta shura exists in pakistan, so does the Haqqanis in in Miranshaha, North Waziritan, not to forget pakistanis refusing to hand over key moderates like Mullah Baradar and providing safe heaven to senior Taliban figures.
