In a BBC interview, General Sher Mohammad Karimi had said Pakistan could end the Afghan war “in weeks” if it were serious about peace.
The foreign office said the allegations that Pakistan “controls” the Taliban and has “unleashed” them on Afghanistan have no basis and we reject them categorically.
“Pakistan has exercised extreme restraint in the face of highly provocative language used by the Afghan civil and military officials over the last few months, not to mention some totally fabricated accusations,” the statement said.
“Such comments also reflect insincerity on the part of some elements in Afghan government. On the specific request of the Afghan leadership itself, Pakistan has been fully supportive of the reconciliation process. Our concrete steps to facilitate this process, are well known,” it added.
The foreign office statement stressed that Pakistan will not be deterred in its efforts to support the international community’s efforts to bring peace and stability to Afghanistan.
“We would, however, hope that the Afghan officials would refrain from levelling baseless allegation and work towards creating a conducive environment that helps advance the shared objectives of peace, stability and prosperity,” it said.

@hedgefunder:
I dont believe the nature of this news article asks anyone to think what Pakistan should focus on.
The question created is what Afghanistan should focus on ?
Specially at such times when their leaders and generals have no actual power over their land/people and the only thing they can think up of is Pakistan.
Until these Afghanis were refugees , they roamed around free in Pakistan waiting for their Canadian and US visas.
They forget that the reason that Afghanis are earning dollars and pounds overseas is that their neighbor Pakistan allowed them in and let them fly out.
Even the Muslims of Pakistan have regards for people in India likewise Hindus in India have regard for people in Pakistan.
But these Afghanis , the ones fed up with their history and its child the Taliban , they are ungrateful liberal fanatics who think that the world will help them TRANSFORM into some modern country in a few years.
They havent yet realized that it takes decades easily.
So the least they should do is to start having peaceful and NICE relations with Pakistan.
But still , I wish you all the right and pleasure to dream on ....;)
What an ungrateful nation!! While millions of their country men have enjoyed the sanctuary provided by this country, their leaders spew venom and hate. Millions of Afghanis have become millionaires, controlling the transport and other vital sectors, yet I have never seen anyone come and defend this country.
Perhaps we will learn our lessons that you can never ever be sure when your pet snake will diss you!!
@Asif Butt: Yes but it does help to have reality check, when you wake up, as dreams only occur while one sleeps, not when one is awake. That's called day dreaming and living in illusional cocoon, which sadly does not really help or provide anything ! Pakistan should focus on solving its own multiple issue on hand, rather than being concerned about its neighbours, god knows that are plenty of issues GOP/ARMY have on hand ranging from provide basic security, healthcare, law & order, education, social services, electricity etc..... the list goes on !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What a logic General Sher Mohammad Karimi, Pakistan which is frontline state against war on terrorism, sacrificed more than 40000 civilians and military personals just to bring peace in your country. We, people of Pakistan gave the refuge to your 3 million refugees. We fought yours battle and we are suffering from it. Pakistan is the only state which is affected because of insurgencies from your country. You are failed to counter the Taliban and you blame Pakistan for it, what a shame. On the other hand you are having talks with them and still you consider Pakistan responsible. Who else stood beside you when you were under chaos? It was not India, it was Pakistan and remember it.
pakistan has been a true friend of Afghanistan and we should appreciate their efforts to bring peace and stability in afghanistan
@Hedgefunder: Well Sir ,
What I said counts you in too.
You have the right to dream too and please remind your children that they can dream on as well...
The Chinese are just using them. You don't destroy your standing in the world and alliances then run to China as a last resort and expect them to be flattered. The Chinese are playing Pakistan so bad its not even funny.
@ Maria and Asif Butt
If Afghanistan is puppet of India then pakistan is puppet of chinna, saudi, uae, britian and usa. You also said all Afghans want is India and dollar, one point there is right yes we Afghans want Indian we love them and will consider them as our brothers, and in terms of dollars can you tell me where you stand when it comes to money??
Does Pakistan have ANY friend left?
Except their Chinese colonial masters of course.
@Maria
You are the pot calling the kettle black. Pakistan has been a puppet of Saudi Arabia and their overlord the mighty USA since 1947. Maududi and Tariq Ramadan were on the payroll of the State Department since early 50s. You should really get out of your bubble and read K K Aziz's Murder of History and other books not published by ISPR and their affiliated madrasahs. You sound like a broken record regurgitating stale apocrypha and conspiracy theories.
ET: You are at it again, allowing Pakistanis to insult Afghans but denying Afghans the opportunity to respond to derisive comments.
@ Maria and Asif Butt
So much hatred for your erstwhile colonial partner. I bet you two look just like any common man or woman in India but religion has turned you into venom spewing self hating bigots with an identity crisis.
@@@@@@@@@Asif Butt
Before any comment on rape in India plz plz just go through the link as below and check where you/your Pakistan are http://tribune.com.pk/story/189294/pakistan-ranks-3rd-on-list-of-most-dangerous-countries-for-women/ This is your home website you must consider it and never avoid this. what a shame. I would say in this regard Pakistan is not in a position to talk about INDIA.
@Asif Butt: Well , both Indians and Afghans have the right to dream. So lets not deny them their dreams …..
Yes, you are right, but be very careful with your perception too, as to where you are heading ! As you may not even have an Nation in its current form within a decade at best, on its current course !
@Maria: These Indians are a diverse arrogant nation who are getting carried away by their rate of national progress.
They have done well to promote the East in the world at the same time successfully hidden the ugliness which lies within the hate of fanatic Hindus.
But the world has started to monitor this potential social catastrophy which may await this nation.
The Hindustan has already emerged as the land of rapes and other racist foundations.
And now they have found their long lost brothers the Afghans. People who want to bury everything with a past to make some new Afghanistan which they havent even visualized or thought of yet.
All these Afghans now want is dollars and India , and they wont mind trying everything to remove Pakistan from their way.
Well , both Indians and Afghans have the right to dream.
So lets not deny them their dreams .....
@ALL COMMENTERS
History is history.
I think you all need to wake up now.
What Pakistan did is history now.
The lame Afghani leaders need to keep blaming Pakistan for their lack of progress.
Pakistan is stuck in its own pit back home.
Not only the Afghani leaders but the whole Afghan nation needs to grow up.
Past is past , you have your land now , like the Iraqis got theirs. Take care of it.
Border conflicts are everlasting realities. Dont take a chapter from history as lame excuse and blame game which helps your image in front of the people who expect you to bring prosperity.
You Afghans will not get far this way.
Your choice ....
@Concerned: "Control is a big word to use. Influence yes but not control. "
Yes, you are right but the dominant influence is the other way round. It is the Taliban that is influencing Pakistan and may very soon get in control of big tracts of its territory.
Pakistan is crying fowl that everybody in the world are behind in blaming pakistan, this reminds me of an old adage which said " Cat drinking stolen milk thought no body in the world has seen it since it had closed its eyes".
@ModiFied: I am always amused that so many Indians jump to explain and defend anything said by their Afghan proteges. It remains clear that Afghanistan is nothing more than a puppet state of India but unfortunately the world sits idly as India uses Afghanistan as a base to conduct criminal acts against Pakistan. Even when US Defense Secretary confirmed India's role in Afghanistan to cause trouble for Pakistan, Indians refuse to admit their own guilt. They have been at it since the British left the region in 1947.
The best euphemism the US and NATO uses about Pak's relationship with the Afghan Taliban...they have...'considerable influence'.
These double games have been insane and detrimental. Can't help but feel the Pak people, who have suffered from terrorism, were betrayed by the security agencies who may have been protecting some of these militant 'assets', instead of arresting them or putting them down for good.
Musharraf denies we're 'mad men'. Apparently we are.
Very true statement - because pakistan only driving all terror activities over afghanistan, pakistan should stop their terror activities over afghanistan and let them live peacefully then only pakistan's people also live peacefully otherwise pakistan also have to suffer long term issue although currently suffering severely.Jay hind.Jay afghan.
As if they are not doig anything to pakistan. Yes we should ve sealed the borders long ago before your war spilled in our borders based on pashtunism.
There is a saying in Sanskrit; " Vinashkale Vipreet Budhi" ( in bad times mind thinks opposite). This is what is happening in Pakistan. I see no signs of sane vice coming out of Pakistan. This simply means that Pakistan is in self destruction mode.
The Taliban retreat into Pakistan where they are sheltered, resupplied, provided intel, and their ranks are refilled by your Madrassas - that might not be control but it's certainly collaboration.
Winner of Round 1: Afghanistan ++++++++++++++++++++++ Pakistan reduced to making half hearted denials..
This is another attempt by Nato + America to leave Pakistan and Afghanistan fighting against each other before bailing out of the War on Pak+Afghanistan. This is what Britain did with Pak + India when it left its Asian occupations.
Dear Web Editor USA have failed in their policy to contain Islamic Fundamentalism in AfPak area. I believe this is a very good sign for the future, With the exit of NATO the Americans will only become the side player and we will have to see who the Pakistani Army will blackmail using the Taliban. India as usual likes to play the sob story without doing anything. The Indians do not want to deploy their Army but want to cry foul when the Americans leave after all the Audiance back home in USA are becoming more uneasy by the day because it is not America's war anymore. Americans only play the poker where there is benefit. The Pakistanis have messed up everything by giving absolute power to Taliban fanatics whom they can not control in their own country which means both USA and Pakis are in the same boat. Pakistan has given Gwadar to China which is in Baluchistan a sore heel sure to become for China as well via Uigurs. The Nuke confrontation is now certain as we know the CIA will be training Uigurs and let us hope the Indian sub continent does not get caught up here. Pakistan is playing a dangerous game and will allow China India Russia axis to be a reality whilst the USA will be caught napping. Let us see who is playing in whose hands. Regards and God Bless.

"....and work towards creating a conducive environment that helps advance the shared objectives of peace, stability and prosperity,” That is what exactly afghan army chief was asking from Pakistan as well but in true terms.
Why reject the notion of the outsider when Pakistan Government continualy states that its army has full control on the autonomous tribal territories; whereas the Afghan Government has never calimed having control of the so called border region area on their side?
Rex Minor
Control is a big word to use. Influence yes but not control.
everyone knows what will happen after 2014.
What else will FO say ? Anybody who has followed the events over past couple of decade in regards to this are too well aware as to the reality, that its in the interest of Pakistan to have unstable Afghanistan and incidentally who created Taliban ? Pakistan has never really been very smart with its policies in regards to its neighbours and region as whole, over past few decades, hence they even managed to loose half of the nation too ! Now at present, if proper action is not taken, than they are likely to be overwhelmed by the extreme right groups and possibly implode from within !
I think all that opium production has finally taken its toll on the Afghan officials.
"not to mention some totally fabricated accusations,” the statement said." ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ And other partially fabricated accusations?
Pakistan has credibility deficit. When army chief negotiates with Mr Kerry regarding Qatar office and attempting to provide respect to Taliban in international community clearly suggests its influence over Taliban. We have seen these denial before with other non state actors and these easy deniability were incorporated when official policy to support Taliban was formulated. One hundred lies are not equal to one truth.
Pakistan needs to treat Afghanistan as India treat Nepal and Bhutan, than they will become straight like an arrow.
Elsewhere in this paper he claims Pakistan is complicit in drone strikes on the very Taliban it controls.....I suppose if you are in charge of the big business called reststructuring Afghanistan you do not wan't to say goodbye to the billions of US dollars coming your way.
“We would, however, hope that the Afghan officials would refrain from levelling baseless allegation and work towards creating a conducive environment that helps advance the shared objectives of peace, stability and prosperity,” it said.
How can these be base less accusations when we all know that Quetta shura exists in pakistan, so does the Haqqanis in in Miranshaha, North Waziritan, not to forget pakistanis refusing to hand over key moderates like Mullah Baradar and providing safe heaven to senior Taliban figures. The world hasn't forgotten that Osama Bin-Laden was sheltering in a garrison town and not in Afghanistan. Many thanks
