Police make headway in investigations

LONDON:

British police on Friday said that they had recovered a knife and brick used in the attack on Dr Imran Farooq, who was stabbed to death outside his home in north London last month.

“Detectives have recovered a 5.5-inch (14cm) bladed kitchen knife and a house brick which were used in the attack on Dr Imran Farooq in Edgware two weeks ago,” a statement from London’s Metropolitan Police said.

It said the items were found in Green Lane, the street  where the senior member of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), was found with head injuries and stab wounds on September 16. He was declared dead at the scene.

Officers from the Met’s counter-terrorism command were trying to trace two Asian men in connection with the murder, police said, but added that they “retain an open mind as to a motive.” No arrests have yet been made and police urged witnesses to come forward. Farooq’s death led to a shutdown of Karachi, after the MQM declared 10 days of mourning. His widow also made an appeal for help in apprehending his killers, on September 23.
