ISLAMABAD: National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) has released a notification, announcing an increase in power tariff of Rs1.12 per unit following changes in fuel prices in May this year.
With this tariff increase, power distribution companies will recover Rs6 billion from consumers. The tariff revision will be applicable to all consumer categories except for lifeline consumers using up to 50 units per month and consumers of Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC).

In its decision on tariff revision, Nepra said according to “the information provided by the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA), it has been observed that actual fuel charges stood at Rs7.6689 per kilowatt hour for May 2013 compared to the reference fuel charges, ie Rs6.5407, registering an increase of Rs1.1282.”
CPPA told the regulator that the National Transmission and Dispatch Company (NTDC) suffered transmission losses of 93.54 gigawatt hours, which amounted to 1.26% for May 2013 and was within the allowed limit of 2.5%. CPPA sold seven billion units to distribution companies in the month.
An official, citing the Nepra notification, said the regulator revised the approved tariff on account of variation in fuel charges on the basis of a set formula.

One thing has been confirmed,id est,the hike in electricity units' price is causing the increase of electricity theft in Pakistan on large scale nationwide and rapidly......

Can someone explain why consumers of KESC are exempt from the price hike?
govt. of pakistan should devise an easiest formula for suicide other than these...
My neighbors who are the parents of One Brigadier and also pray five times a day under the Direct connection of Electricity. are enjoying free electricity and the people like us are burdened with everything. Sometimes it feels that Pakistan is made for the Elite, Corrupt, Landlords and for Army Officers as we are here just to pay taxes and more tariffs and nothing else. Does the government have any policy how to curb Electricity theft that is around 30 percent of the total output or Gov have to balance the payments by burdening the people who are using electricity in a legal manner??
