Eight army officers made Lieutenant General

Promoted officers supersede dozens of their peers in their elevation.

ISLAMABAD: Eight Major Generals have been promoted to the rank of Lieutenant General on Thursday. The officers have superseded dozens of their peers in their elevation.

Lt General Waheed Arshad has been appointed as the new Chief of General Staff on the post vacated by General Shamim Haider Wyne, who would replace General Tariq Majeed as Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee.

Lt General Waheed Arshad was currently serving as Inspector General Training and Evaluation (IG T&E) at General Headquarters.

Major Generals who were promoted as Lieutenant Generals include Raheel Sharif, Sajjad Ghani, Tariq Khan, Muzammil Hussain, Zaheerul Islam, Agha Umer Farooq, Salim Nawaz and Khalid Rabbani.

Sources said Lt-Gen Tariq Khan, who was serving as Inspector General FC Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa before his promotion will take over as Mangla Corps Commander.

The sitting Corps Commander Mangla Lt-Gen Mustafa Khan will be retiring on October 1(today).

Corps Commander Gujranwala Lt-Gen Jamil Haider will take over as Commander of Army’s Strategic Force on retirement of Syed Absar Hussain on October 22.

Sajjad Ghani has been named as Quarter Master General. He will replace Lt Gen Zahid Hussain Khan who will retire on October 25.

Lt-Gen Raheel Sahrif has been appointed Corps Commander Gujranwala. Lt-Gen Muzammil Hussain has been appointed IG Training and Evaluation.

Zaheer ul Islam will be the next Corps Commander Karachi while Lt-Gen Agha Umer Farooq has been named as President National Defence University (NDU). The post was vacant after retirement of Lt-Gen Muahmmad Yusuf on September 16.

Dozens of Major Generals have been superseded during the entire exercise of promotions. Among those who stand superseded include former Military Intelligence chief Major General Nadeem Taj, Director-General ISPR Major General Athar Abbas, GOC Aviation Major General Raja Arif Nazir, Director General Rangers (Punjab) Major General Yaqub Khan, Additional Secretary Ministry of Defence Production Major General Nasir Mehmood, Director General Special Communication Organisation Major General Hamid Mehmood, Director General Air Defence Major General Tahir Ali, Chairman SUPARCO Major General Ahmad Bilal, Director General Anti Narcotics Force Syed Shakeel Hussain.

As a part of downtrodden nation which is always bitten by the generals i only pray that they all must remain true to their duties and never indulge in the nasty politics as done by a few of their predecessors in past.

He is serving Pakistan Army has Adjutant General before his retirement. Please get your facts straight, ET. Mr. El-Edroos, how many plots in DHA are you interested in buying after you are done teaching at Bellerbys? I'm sorry if a lot of us poor Pakistanis don't have the opportunity to earn as much, but try asking that question when you are back here in Pakistan, and not while you are sitting in the comfort of a First World country as a second-class citizen. I pay taxes and I'm glad my Armed Forces get something out of it; I sure as hell am not paying my taxes for Mr. AZ to get fat on. Lastly, I wholeheartedly agree with romm's comments. Finally, Maj Gen Tariq Khan is made a three-star officer. May he also get his fourth star, inshaAllah!!!

Internal promotions are always done by evaluation and performance. Good luck to you and congratulations.
