A former lady police constable, Tasleem Arain, who was pursuing the murder case of her sister against her husband and a policeman, among others, was shot dead on Saturday. The assailants, riding motorcycles, shot her multiple times before escaping from the scene.
The incident occurred at Nai Pul, when Arain was walking towards her home in Hazara Colony from the district and sessions court. Arain’s relatives and neighbours reacted by staging a sit-in along with her dead body outside the SSP’s Office.
Last month Arain’s sister, Shamim, was stabbed to death in her home allegedly by her husband, Sajid Arain, and his accomplices. A case was registered at the Hali road police station on the complaint of their nephew, Arshad Arain. The protesters alleged that the same people who had killed Shamim were involved in Tasleem’s murder. Arshad complained that the police had arrested Lodhi after Shamim’s murder, but an inquiry by the police high-ups had later cleared him from the blame and he was released on bail.
