KARACHI:

Majlis-e-Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM) organised rallies and sit-ins on Friday to protest against the targeted killings of Shias in the country.

The demonstrations were staged in different parts of the city including Shia mosques, such as Jama Masjid Khoja Shia Ithna Asheri in Kharadar and Jama Masjid Darbar-e-Hussaini in Malir, after Friday prayers.

The protesters shouted slogans against the perpetrators of  the deadly blast at Madrassa Hussaini in Peshawar’s Chamakni area last week and the terrorist attack on Sindh High Court’s Justice Maqbool Baqar in Karachi on Wednesday.

MWM provincial secretary general Allama Mukhtar Imami, while addressing the gatherings, asked Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry to take appropriate action against terrorists belonging to banned outfits who claimed responsibility for the attack on Justice Baqar. “The government only exists in theory. The terrorists, in fact reign supreme,” said Allama Imami. “They strike whenever and wherever they want to hit and we see no government writ anywhere in the country.”

He added that these terrorists killed several thousands of Sunni and Shia Muslims and non-Muslims but there were only suggestions of negotiations by the government with the terrorists, which was equivalent to bowing down to them.
