LAHORE: A Lahore High Court division bench on Thursday suspended the sentence of former MNA Salman Mohsin Gillani, who had allegedly contested the 2008 elections on the basis of a fake BA degree, and released him on bail.

The Pakpattan sessions court had jailed the former parliamentarian for one year and imposed a fine on him. Gillani challenged the verdict at the Lahore High Court through Advocate Abid Saqi, the president of the LHC Bar Association.

The division bench headed by Justice Sardar Tariq Masood suspended the sentence and allowed the petitioner bail against Rs100,000.
