Initial reports suggest the blast was caused by a remote-controlled device which exploded when the car carrying Khan passed by.
The car was also destroyed in the blast.
The bodies were shifted to District Headquarter Hospital, Bannu.
Earlier in the day, the Hayatabad police SHO was killed while four others including his driver and gunman were injured in unknown militants firing on their van near Karkhano Market, Peshawar.
