Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton says he would relish the challenge if he gets a chance to become the teammate of reigning Formula One champion Sebastian Vettel in future, according to Sky Sports.

Hamilton is currently 55 points adrift of the Red Bull driver but is unafraid of taking on the youngest three-time world champion in his own team.

“Any time, any place, any team,” said Hamilton. “That’s not a worry for me. I would have happily been Vettel’s teammate. He has a great car, so it would have been a great experience.”

The former McLaren driver also admitted that although Mercedes is currently the right place for him, he admired the stature and pace of Ferrari.

“At the moment I can’t see myself anywhere else because I’m really happy where I am. But what I can say is that throughout my racing career and through karting and everything, Ferrari have always been one of the top teams and it’s always a desire for any driver to drive for them.”

However, the Briton still has fond memories of his old team and openly acknowledges that a return to McLaren would never be disagreeable for him.

“Back to McLaren? I could never rule that out. That’s the team I grew up in and it still has a good place in my heart.”
