
The Urdu language has a special role in promoting Pak-China relations.
This was said by a visiting Chinese scholar on Monday. “The National University of Modern Languages (NUML) is also doing a tremendous job for the promotion of Urdu in China,” said Director Centre for Pak Studies, Foreign Languages, Urdu Department in Peking University (PKU) China, Prof Dr Tang Meng Sheng during a visit to NUML.
An 18-member delegation of scholars from different Chinese universities visited NUML to further explore avenues of exchange programmes.
Rector NUML Maj-Gen (retd) Masood Hasan, Registrar Brig (retd) Saeed Akhtar Malik, Director Academics Col (retd) Syed Jawaid Ahmad and other officials briefed the visiting delegation about the programmes being offered in the university.
Prof Dr Sheng said that Chinese students were interested in knowing and understanding the Urdu language, culture, society and archeological sites in Pakistan.
He said that in China many scholars were pursuing their doctoral degrees in the field of Eastern languages like Urdu, Sanskrit and Buddhism.
“The exchange programmes would help cater to the need of the students in both the countries,” he added.
