KARACHI: The Sindh Sports Board (SSB) Beach Games 2013 that concluded yesterday included special athletes for the first time in a multi-sport event.

The Games, featuring 21 disciplines with four teams from Karachi, showcased the special players in separate events for mini-marathon and beach volleyball.

Special athletes Imran Hussain and Nousheen Nasir won gold medals in the mini-marathon men and women events respectively.

According to the manager of the special contingent, Isharat Zehra, the Games was a golden opportunity for the special athletes to perform on one platform along with the regular players.

“Having the special athletes compete with the regular ones was a big step,” Zehra told The Express Tribune.

Meanwhile, the event secretary Khalid Rehmani said that contrary to the schedule, organisers did not hold the events on the second day.
