ISLAMABAD: Soon after the federal government decided to initiate a treason case against Pervez Musharraf, his lawyer Ahmed Raza Khan Kasuri advised the government to focus on its 90 day 'honeymoon period' and the provisions that people were waiting for like electricity, jobs and security.

Kasuri was speaking outside the Supreme Court, after the hearing of a case against Musharraf.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, during today's National Assembly session, announced that the newly elected government will pursue a treason case against the former dictator.

Referring to the recent incidents that took place in Balochistan, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and Karachi since the new government took charge, Kasuri said that the people want their problems fixed and that the federal government needed to get its priorities straight.

Criticising the written response submitted by the Attorney General (AG) of Pakistan, Musharraf’s lawyer equated it to “constitutional poetry.”

The federal government according to the AG's statement wished to proceed according with the law and also take political forces in confidence through consultative process so the collective will and wisdom of the people of Pakistan is duly reflected in the process.

Musharraf could possibly face life in prison or the death penalty if he is convicted of treason. Many doubt that the army, previously the country's most powerful institution, would allow Musharraf to be convicted.
