Blue team impresses on opening day

Karachi outfit leads Beach Games 2013 with 400 points.

KARACHI: Karachi Blue dominated the opening day of the second edition of the Sindh Sports Board (SSB) Karachi Beach Games 2013 with 400 points at the Sea View yesterday.

The two-day multi-sport event showcased 21 disciplines including archery, cycling, gymnastics and traditional games like kabaddi and vanj watti.

Blue started their campaign with a gold medal in the cycling event through Yasir Ahmed. He covered the five-and-a-half kilometre (km) distance in 29 minutes and 27.40 seconds, while Karachi Green’s Abdul Wahab finished second in 29 minutes and 27.42 seconds. Maroon team’s Muhammad Sheeraz secured third position.

Similarly, Blue’s Mariam won the gold in the women’s cycling event. She covered the distance of one-and-a-half km in 11 minutes and 34 seconds, while Green’s Kanza Baloch and Razmina took the second and third positions respectively.

Karachi Blue clinched the women’s beach football event as well with a 2-1 win over Karachi Yellow.
