The Afghan embassy spokesperson, Shams Zardasht said that the Afghan diplomat received a bullet wound in his leg when unidentified gunmen fired at him late on Wednesday night.
He was returning from the market in F-10 sector of the city, Zardasht added.
Ibrahimkhel was shifted to Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) for medical treatment. Doctors have described his condition as stable.
The spokesperson said that Ibrahimkhel had earlier gone to a market in the F-10 sector late on Wednesday when unidentified gunmen tried to kidnap him.
"We are not aware of the motives behind the incident and we demand the Pakistani government to investigate," Zardasht said.
The spokesperson further said that the armed men robbed Ibrahimkhel of his cell phone and money and later tried to drag him into their car.
Zardasht said that the Director General Afghan Desk at the foreign ministry, Tipu Usman visited the injured diplomat at PIMS and called for an investigation.
“We demand the government of Pakistan to ensure security of all Afghan diplomats and embassy staffers to avoid such incidents in future,” said Afghan ambassador Umer Daudzai in PIMS.
Police officials say it was a robbery attempt
Sajjad Bukhari SHO Shalimar police station said that the unidentified men fired at the diplomat when he resisted their robbery attempt.
Bukhari said the police had taken photographs of the suspects from the CCTV footage and wanted the injured diplomat to identify them so that they could be arrested.
Sources said that cooperation from the diplomat would help in arresting the suspects.

Why did he try to create a diplomatic incident by resisting??? He should have quietly let the robbery take place then taken it up with the Pakistani authorities. He did a very undiplomatic thing and got exactly what he was logically going to get.
And was he really being robbed? Or did something else happen that this diplomat passed off as a robbery to divert attention from his own suspicious activities (what was he doing visiting a market far away from the diplomatic enclave?).
This must be deeply investigated without hastily taking the diplomat's word on anything.
