"I reject most emphatically (Afghan) Ambassador (Zahir) Tanin's argument - root, trunk and branch - that terrorist sanctuaries exist in Pakistan and some elements continue to use terrorism as an instrument of foreign policy," Pakistan's permanent Ambassador to the UN Masood Khan said during the 15-member Council's debate on the report of United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA).
"No, sir, this is not true; and you know this is not true," he said looking towards his Afghan counterpart. "And this is not good diplomacy. By using such arguments, you cast aspersions on our sincerity.”
Khan said that Pakistan operates as one state where all institutions of the state have consensus that terrorism is a threat to both Pakistan and Afghanistan and therefore both countries should work together to eliminate this scourge.
"Peace and stability in Afghanistan is a key constituent of Pakistan's foreign policy, which is supported by all state institutions."
The ambassador insisted that success of the policy requires reciprocity, trust and goodwill. He made it clear that his rejoinder was not a tit-for-tat response.
"I have said this to highlight that terrorists operate on both sides of the porous border. Many attacks against Pakistan are planned on Afghan soil. That is why we need more aggressive policing and surveillance of the border. This will also help stop the shelling. We must not allow terrorists manipulate and divide the people of Afghanistan and Pakistan.”
Insisting that political trust needs to be built, Khan said that the joint commission, chaired by Pakistan's Prime Minister and the President of Afghanistan, is the best forum for pursuing this objective.
Earlier, the Afghan ambassador spoke of about continued acts of terrorism in his country, saying the people of Afghanistan "are still the main victims of this heinous (that) continue to exist in Pakistan's soil and some elements continue to use terrorism as an instrument of foreign policy."

You either act very smart or you dont know what is happening around you which makes me feel sorry for you and the like of you..
“Peace and stability in Afghanistan is a key constituent of Pakistan’s foreign policy, which is supported by all state institutions.”
No doubt,, government and people of Pakistan unanimously understand that Afghanistan is our close muslim brother state,we have common interest with eachothers and time of test,Afghan satbility is our stability,Afghan solideity is Pakistan's soliderity.
In case, any problem creats in Afghaistan Pakistan may automatically victim of the problem>
For example, terrorism, was born in Afghan land that is the pure result of foreign invasion but as have seen extended to Pakistan,
In fact, whole Pakistan is facing and has been facing insurgency and despite of all is ready to sacrifice for peace in Afghanistan, Afghanistan must follow the same tradition if the present leadership of Afghan government want soliderity, stability integrity in the regin.
@Maria: "US Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel has stated that India is using Afghanistan as a base to cause trouble for Pakistan". This is a pure lie. Please inform as to when he as a US Defence Secretary had stated this. Only lies and more lies from you.
@SKChadha: "Pakistan has always spoken truth and nothing except truth." +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ I second that.
Ambassador Masood Khan is right, the world should believe him and GOP. Pakistan has always spoken truth and nothing except truth.
It is Pakistan that has suffered because of Afghans, not the other way around, they conveniently forget the millions of illegal Afghans on Pakistan soil that were cared for, but that was our mistake, we did not realize we were feeding snakes. Now Afghans are taking their cues and talking points directly from New Delhi and have become surrogates for India.
Today Afghanistan under Karzai has become Pakistans number 1 enemy, India does not need to send in terrorists anymore, now they have Afghans who are more than willing to support the BLA, the TTP and others. One wishes as a proud Pakistani that some day the Pakistani foriegn office puts a stop to timid canned statements and comes out forcefully and accuses Afghanistan of lying, of having the support of the Indian media and that if the Afghans dont stop their hostility that they must pay a severe price. Start by blocking all roads into and out of Afghanistan. Throwing out all Afghans and mining and fencing the borders, we need leaders with guts, we the people are sick and tired of weak leaders who do nothing but apologize and grovel in the name of peace.
Stand up to the Afghan Indian lies. Pakistan has suffered at the hands of Afghanistan and USA since the Soviet Union invaded Afghanistan.
We have been hosting our Afghan brothers and sisters for over 3 decades let alone Mr Karzai himself and this is what we get in response.Thank You...
"Pakistan rejects Afghan allegations of terror sancturies" ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ sancturies? Spell check has not yet reached ET.
"Pakistan rejects Afghan allegations of terror sancturies" ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Corrected: Pakistan emphatically rejects Afghan allegations of terror sanctuaries What is terror? what are sanctuaries? eh?
"“Peace and stability in Afghanistan is a key constituent of Pakistan’s foreign policy, which is supported by all state institutions.”" +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Really? I dont believe you.
@Sandip: "t takes some brazenness to keep denying facts, that too standing in front of the world community." +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Pls look up Taqiya ...an islamic concept to further understand this.
@Aftab Kenneth Wilson: The Pakistani ambassador should have stated instead that all of Afghanistan is a terrorist sanctuary and that Pakistan has suffered the most because of Afghanistan. Furthermore, he should have asked the UN to help with building a big wall or electrified fence across the Af-Pak border to prevent the incursion of miscreants from Afghanistan into Pakistan. None other than the US Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel has stated that India is using Afghanistan as a base to cause trouble for Pakistan.
So far thousands of innocnet ppl lost their life due to extremisim existence in pakistan regardless close to Afghan border or karachi and our respectful ambassador keeps denying it... i mean world knows what we talk. or we just love to say zinda bad...
Then explain the Haqqani. The story keeps changing - one day you acknowledge the sanctuaries but say you haven't received enough financial and military aid to take them on - another day you say you will eliminate them but only at a time when it suits you - now you say they don't/never existed.
Sandip, judging a book by its cover, ill wager youre from Ghana.
but why must India endorse these allegations?
You got to give it to the Pakistani officialdom. It takes some brazenness to keep denying facts, that too standing in front of the world community.
This is the beginning of a sad story, let the Americans leave Afghanistan. Here is a country which has not learned lessons from history even after 66 years.
This reminds me of a film named The Jungle Book. '' The word Trust Me '' was repeatedly said several times by another character who wanted to swallow his opponent through some musical phrases "" Trust Me, Trust Me, Trust Me "". Both our and foreign media has confirmed that there are sanctuaries on our soil. South Punjab, FATA and N. Waziristan are not places where we have Holy Terrorists. Speaking lies in UNSC will only backfire. Yes Afghanistan is also not lagging behind but should be considered as front runner.
