MULTAN:

A murder convict at the Muzaffargarh jail apparently committed suicide on Wednesday by cutting his throat with a blade.

Jail officials said he was found lying unconscious in the toilet. He was taken to district headquarters hospital, where he died a few hours later. Doctors who treated him said he had lost a lot of blood.

Police said Muhammad Farooq, a resident of Alipur, had killed his wife a year ago on suspicion of having an illicit affair.

According to the prosecution, he had cut her throat with a blade after he and his accomplice had tied her hands and feet using a rope.

Jail warders said over a few weeks, Farooq had been heard saying that he had learnt that his wife was innocent.

“He was overheard saying that he deserved to die the same way he had killed his wife,” a jail official said on the condition on anonymity, adding, “Everyone thought it was just a phase of repentance. No one knew he was serious.”

Jail officials said a suicide note was found on Farooq’s body. It contained a confession and requested forgiveness.

The letter said: “I should have believed her when she said she was innocent. I should have given her one chance and should not have listened to the people who poisoned my mind against her. I hope her family would forgive me. She was a loyal and honest wife and I now feel ashamed of believing the rumours.”

In the letter, he had also asked other men to trust their life partners.

Any sane person will not listen to others but wife unless she has proved to be deceptive and liar. In this case husband killed his wife because others accused her and now when he realised he was wrong he killed himself alike as she was killed. I will advise all not to accuse and blame innocent people to avoid such like disastrous actions. May the couple rest in peace, aameen.
