The police had raided two houses in the same area on June 18. A British-Pakistani was also interrogated in relation to this case.
The latest search operations represent the first public sign of progress in the case after a hiatus of more than a year, although London’s Metropolitan Police Service insisted the investigation remained “active”.” The searches are continuing.
Detectives had previously said that while they were open-minded about the motive, the attack would have required careful planning and Farooq’s killers may have had help.
In September 2011, one year after Farooq’s murder, police had offered a reward of £20,000 for information that helps lead to a prosecution in an attempt to find clues to the attack.
Background
Dr Farooq was stabbed to death in Green Lane on Edgware Road on 16 September, 2010 – but leads in the case have been few and far between – or at least not publicised. The anti-terrorist unit of the Metropolitan Police had said that, a few months before his murder, Dr Farooq had been trying to create his own independent political “profile”.
The police force had hinted about the possibility that Dr Farooq might have been thinking of embarking on a new political career, and, therefore, it wanted to talk to everyone who were in contact with him from a political perspective.
It also noted that Dr Farooq had created a new Facebook profile in 2010 and had established many new contacts on the social forum.

@Aysha M:
Is it just you or all MQM supporters who experience similar episodes of delusional psychosis whenever it becomes clear that the game is over for 'Altaf bhai' (he seems to suffer quite frequently from such episodes as well)
Stories Stories Stories And That Is It... Even After So Much Cooperation from MQM, Scotland Yard is not been able to solve that case. Raids , Interrogation all has been done before and still continue.. But more importantly for some people thinks a nice story to spread over social media as they have always intended to defame MQMs image on every forum but it hardly works for them :)
@Modi: Thank you for giving me a new name.
I advocate dignity for the people of Karachi. Transport and policing are the two areas which need to be addressed.
When I move about the city in my cool and comfortable car, and i see people sitting on bus tops, it feels that I am having a 5 course meal before starved people.
If I could I would get them all into my vehicle, what I can do, is to show concern and lend my support to the political party which I think is most interested in alleviating the conditions and impacting a difference, and actually understands the place with all its complexities.
If this warrants bullying and using my ID, so be it. I comment about Karachi and for Karachi, and that is about all.
I cannot see young boys of Karachi getting brutally treated by their own city police, this hostility is going on for too long, unacceptable and must stop.
I want a directly elected mayor of the city, who has transport and policing under him. My hope lies with the MQM.
No amount of bullying and comments at personal level can stop me from saying what I truly believe in.
@mrs. ahmad: you have really close to it. Yes, if the 'real' perpetrators will be caught, it will surely deserve a 'Special Edition'!
@Aysha M:
Well played.. your trolling had everyone fooled there for a second!!! :P
One should understand that Scotland Yard is not like our Police who knows everything about a crime before it is committed. It will take time perhaps due to the involvement of some very important person/persons. People have the right to know facts,
@Aysha M : 'Altaf Bhai has never even hurt a mosquito.' pardy main rehney doooo ... parda na uthaaoo
Every one knew that who murdered imran farooq, pak media also knew but they're silent 'cuse there are many terrorist mind persons in media groups, they don't want publish truth.
We have been reading such stories for almost 3 years. People are now losing their trust on Scotland Yard. Justice delayed is justice denied!
Two lions in one Jungle cant live with peace, one has to surrender. This is story. Check the pic in this news report to understand my analogy.
Seems like PPP is pushing so hard, it is always the case, whenever there is a trouble between MQM and PPP and PPP needs to resolve the matter and want MQM with them, then all of the sudden rubbish scotlandyard wakes up and do some silly progress in this case. Well I think this time it wont work.
@Aysha M (Original version): Sorry to say as there's very little compliance of 'Intellectual Property' in Pakistan, but in your case defending MQM doesn't seems to show any Intellectualism at all sister! So doesn't really matter if your ID is hijacked or not what really matters is that MQM leaders are all Demagogues and you would understand if you go to the reality not what is defined by the MQM itself.
@Aysha M: i would encourage moderators to look into identities of commentators , it really confuses when diagonally opposite cooments appear from same person. Actually i trust that ET in colaboration with International herald Tribune follows ethics which are of internationla journalistic standereds .It seems moderators are needed to be supervised.
@Aysha M: You really need to work on your comments to sound convincing
dearth of arguments makes a person do what you are doing
@Typical Desi: No you didnt see any Aysha (A-Z series).
I have stopped commenting on ET, after sloppy moderation.
First my ID Aysha was taken on by somebody and then Aysha M.
I am not sure if any other commentator faced this problem.
Anyway I have stopped selling MOZART, BEETHOVEN to rap lovers
Mention of Scotland Yard reminded me a joke I used to tell when I was a kid. Three officers, one each from Scotland Yard, FBI, and Pakistan Police, were telling each other the skills of their respective detectives. First the Scotland Yard detective tells the two that they can solve any crime with in 3 months. The FBI agent tells that they can solve even the most complex crime with in one week. Now it was Pakistani Police Officer's turn to impress the others, so he tells them (truth) we already know one week before the crime is committed.
So my suggestion to Scotland Yard is to seek the help of Pakistani Police in solving this case. I am sure they already know a lot about it.
Two more houses raided; one pakistani brit investigated. I am surprised in this age of Google and multiple IDs how can a reporter not name the person and not tag the address. It is either sensationalism,or fear or lack of courage or professional competence.
@Ayesha M So finally I see Ayesha [A to Z] series to this mqm related news on ET !
@omair shahid: At least they have kept the case alive and investigation seems to be continuing. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said of our country. Can you recall any 2 year old case in Pakistan in which the police is still interested in resolution?
@Aysha M: hahahahahahahahahahahaha
It seems all the blessings are with sitting in opposition for MQM, that is why is pressure is building up.
2 years have gone by but still there is no result world famous Scotland yard is unable to catch the killer now it's becoming a joke
Dont push it, Rehman Malik.
One more day to go for the referendum............
Carrot and Stick Policy in action !!
When its about the culprit, I always want to see a "broader picture".. always watch for whats in the "background"
Interesting to see that each investigative step is becoming a headline on ET, I wonder how would ET treat the news when they finally apprehend the perpetrators. Special edition?
False all this reporting is false. Altaf Bhai has never even hurt a mosquito. He lets mosquito drink his blood but does not hurt the mosquito. Altaf Bhai is the mazloomoon ka saathi. Saaaathi.
Long live MQM. Love live NMA. Long live Musharraf Bhaihan. Long live Altaf Bhai.
