The incident took place in near Batal sector along the the Line of Control (LoC).
"Indian troops resorted to small arms and artillery fire in Battal area killing a 10-year old girl and wounding her mother," a senior security official told AFP.
He said Pakistani troops returned fire and senior local official Sohail Azam, confirming the casualties, told AFP sporadic exchanges were ongoing.
He said that the girl died after shrapnel from a mortar fired by Indian troops hit her house in Battal.
Local resident Imtiaz Ahmad told AFP that he and other members of his family were confined to their house because of Indian firing.
On Tuesday, Indian troops opened fire on a small village in Kotli town along the LoC, injuring a 65-year old woman.

@Kaleem: but mangoes are not grown in Kashmir, they must be eating apples
@Aschraful Makhlooq: So, you mean that only the Army fights in the war?
And you are talking about only 60% of Army Officers that makes the figure around 30-40K, or low (I guess). So, what about the remaining?
And how about the Indian traditions in our daily life? Mehndi? Basant ? Antaakhshri ? and so on.....
We are well aware of the facts that how much are we following those, who we call "Our Enemies". Though we have closed our eyes.
@ET: Please, let me speak...
@Modifornication: You having not even the population strength of our Utterpradesh, forget about remaining part of India. think before you speak....,
@My Views: For your kind information more than 60% of Pakistan armed forces' officers watch US and English movies instead of Indian movies and in the army areas Indian channels are blocked on cable networks even on the video shops in army areas only US and English movies are available on rent.......
@RG: When you will leave to live in the past Indians?And you don't need to highlight and discuss on Balochistan's issue and matters because we know it very well and fully that India is definitely interfering in Balochistan matters and now you have to understand this reality that now Pakistan's current armed forces are never like 1971 and I am sure that you have forgotten 1965's the most worst ever defeat by Pakistan........
@ET: This is my second time to attempt to publish my post. Let me speak.... And show the real democracy..
Listen Everybody Pakistan Army is not ready for the war, neither the nation. Bitter but true, that we are influenced by the Indian lifestyle (specially bollywood). If we get into the state of war, we might not win. War means, putting the opponent in Loss. Though we are not in a position to win the war, in the current circumstances, but yes, the heavy amount of Bollywood's income can be stopped by boycotting their stuff, initially.
If so, lets start from today? Are you guys with me?
@ET: Again, I hope that you will let your readers say, which is their democratic right?
@Modifornication:
Yeah! we all know what happened to "Tiger" Niazi's plan to invade India!
May her soul rest in Peace and GOD give strength and patience to her Family...Amin..
@Bewildered: who is talking!!!
@Aschraful Makhlooq: "If India wants war then most welcome.We are also ready to answer India"
Janab MAKHLOOQ Sahib, first of all, speak for yourself, I do not wish to be part of your this "WE" How about your this "WE" when living blood of 11 daughters of Pakistan has not yet been dried in Quetta? no comment for them, no tears for them? I am ashamed that being their father, I could not defend them. please accept my condolences for their untimely death.
Don't try to push terrorists into India, if you don't want to get fired at. Don't try to push terrorists into Afghanistan, if you don't want to get droned.
Why is it so hard to understand?
@Bewildered: By the way, targeting and raping “non-combatant women and kids” is Indian forces policy used to terrorize the Kashmiris in order to suppress their struggle for freedom.
I think your message falls on deaf ears, as most Indians live in denial when it comes to pointing out their realities. Can't expect much from the rape capital of the world.
@RG:
"What Kashmir are you talking about? The very same Kashmir where India is buildings thousands of kilometres of railways....."
Then why are so afraid of asking the Kashmiris what they want in a plebiscite, and need one armed soldier for every 4 Kashmiris to keep them under Indian control?
@gp65:
"Students of what is the question. The English translation of Taliban is students is it not? There has been an ongoing PAkistani policy of pushing such students into India and once in India they target non-combatant women and kids."
What a hateful dishonest bunch of lies presented as truth. Aren't you yourself "assuming a lot without knowing anything", and complain when others do the same. By the way, targeting and raping "non-combatant women and kids" is Indian forces policy used to terrorize the Kashmiris in order to suppress their struggle for freedom.
'Pakistanis"??? and all along I foolishly thought that POK was "Azad" Kashmir!
You all who think they won all the wars why fall back like you captured kashmir and didnt leave, Go and read the correct history!!
@1984: "what were those students doing in border area? Were they students as taliban were students?"
They are Talibans.
Talibans means Students.
@Aschraful Makhlooq: "We are also ready to answer India."
Instead of picking up imaginary wars, please focus on fighting the people who have imposed a war on you and killed 50,000 of your people - yes I was referring to TTP and LeJ.
@Someone: What Kashmir are you talking about? The very same Kashmir where India is buildings thousands of kilometres of railways, the very same Kashmir where Kashmiris get reservations in all fields of education and work all over India. The very same Kashmir where irrigation has made year-round cultivation possible inspite of the harsh weather and last but not the least, the same Kashmir where tourism has been cashed in because of which lakhs of people have got a stable livelihood. What has happened in POK?
@RG: We are already seeing what's happening in Kashmir. I say, let's take it a step further. You'll have much to "see."
@Aschraful Makhlooq: If India wants war then most welcome.We are also ready to answer India.
If India wanted war,then 26/11 would have been a catalyst.....and dont think India are afraid of losing when u consider the result of 1965,1971 and 1999...
But what happens after war??? What does Pakistan have which can be explouted?? Oil?? Coal??? Uranium deposits??? Just 180 million angry muslims who will start suicide bombing all over India just like they're currently doing in Pakistan....
We dont want such a victory just to placate oursleves
Question is :why are they so scared with us even they killing children
what were those students doing in border area? Were they students as taliban were students?
@RG:
"Let’s see what happens to Balochistan"
Lets see then what happens to Delhi, Bombay, Calcutta, Bangalore and many more.
are they Madrassa students?
@Aschraful Makhlooq: Sorry, we are not ready. Once the war is started, we all would request our enemies (the indian soldiers) to give us the addresses of Bollywood heroins : ).
Or, we will discuss on the bollywood latest movies.
No dear, we are not ready for war. Lets first stop helping bollywood to increase their revenues from our pockets. Once they are out of our hearts, then Yes, we will be ready for war.
@My Views: Not on us,shame on those who are not taking action
@sm:
more like the promise of an extraordinary after-life!!
@Aschraful Makhlooq : Exactly!! Like Pakistan answered in 1971. You need some more trimming anyway. Let's see what happens to Balochistan
@sm: Yes, a really good sensible approach.
Despite being students, more important is that, they were Pakistanis. But it doesn't matter, we all are asleep. And the proof is that lets not talk about borders, innocent people are being killed everywhere in Pakistan.
Hahahahha Aman ki asha....
@1984:
it does not mention of what exactly these "students" were of. They could be students of some extraordinary courses with a promising extraordinary future.If you know what i mean here.
Picture shown is of area near Wahga Border, Lahore.
@1984 Visit The Area Brother ,There Are Villages There,within metres from border
A bit late else the Prime Minister could have been presented with the shrapnel at his swearing in on which he was so keen on inviting the Indian PM.
@1984 The two students were eating mangoes, happy? If you have visited Kashmir, there are villages on both sides, very close to LoC. That's why we have an agreement.
One thing i don't understand. We two countries keep firing at each other every now and then. Isn't it a good idea to relocate civilians across both the borders to a safer distance, out of the range of firing, shelling and whatever.
But what were 2 students doing in the edge of the heavily guarded LoC?????
Here goes the Indians......
@ Govt. of Pakistan: Please don't respond the same way, as your are responding against the Drones. Shame on us
"Aman ki Asha", I think Mr. Hamid Mir should be made to sit there when this happens so that he understands that his love songs about India don't go too well with the people who become victim of such adventurism from our 'peaceful neighbors'.
Where are Pakistani troops? Sometimes Indian fighter jets violate Pakistan airspace and sometimes Indian troops open fire on LoC.If India wants war then most welcome.We are also ready to answer India.
