HYDERABAD:

Five picnickers from Karachi died in separate accidents in Thatta and over 30 people were injured on Sunday.

Three young men drowned while swimming in the lake. They were identified as 21-year-old Azeem, 22-year-old Uhud and 23-year-old Waseem - all residents of Lyari and Lee Market. According to their friend Nasir, the three went for a dip in the deep waters at a time when the stormy winds were generating strong waves in the lake. “We saw one of them raising their hand for help but there was no one to immediately rescue them.”

The local divers hauled out their bodies from the lake. The deceased were shifted to the local hospital from where their bodies were sent to Karachi in ambulance.

In a separate incident, a speeding coaster overturned in Gajho area, leaving two young men dead and 20 others injured. A victim of the accident, Adnan, told reporters at the hospital that the coaster was returning to Karachi after a visit to the shrine of Hazrat Jameel Shah Data. He complained that they were shifted to the hospital in public transport vehicles as no ambulance could make it to that point in time.

All the passengers in the coasters were residents of Orangi Town, Karachi. In four separate road accidents of motorcycles, 11 people were injured, according to the Edhi sources.
