KARACHI: Senior leader Rehman Malik, on behalf of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), invited Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) to join the Sindh government, Express News reported on Sunday.

Malik, along with other PPP leaders, visited MQM’s headquarters Nine Zero in Karachi.

The MQM leaders informed Malik that the party’s Rabita Committee will discuss the issue and make a decision according to their party workers’ suggestions.

While speaking to the media during a joint press conference, Malik said that the MQM and PPP must join hands to improve the situation in Karachi and the rest of Sindh.

Pir Mazharul Haq, also present at the meeting, said PPP and MQM have sacrificed a lot for democracy and need to work together against violence and terrorism.

He said the country needs reconciliation today more than ever.

Deputy convener MQM Rabita committee Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui said he has informed the PPP leaders about MQM’s concerns and would like to see them addressed by the Sindh government.

He said no matter where MQM sits in the parliament, it will always work in favour of Pakistan.

@ashar: @Aysha M: Sitting in the assembly on the opposition benches means staying with the system. Joining the government means weakening the system since the substance of the opposition would be reduced significantly that is not good for a healthy democratic system. If still MQM joins the government it would be more like doctrine of necessity, philosophy of benefits, memorandum of understanding on vested interest, and the like, but not government of the people for the people by the people.

Ashar your comments are thought provoking. I suggest you bein a serious reader and commentator, please study the situation even before the elections. When almost 2 years ago at Kati Pahari, Banaras, adjoining ares of Lyari dozens of mohajirs were killed after verification, The President Zardari called AH and said lets team up otherwise these killers would breake into our houses and likk us there. At that moment MQM was also agitating over killings. These words of President were actually blatant threat of worst yet to come if not accepted joining govt.

It is actually this tactic which is being applied even today with success.
