PESHAWAR: An inspection team consisting of senior police officials of the central police office has been formed by the Inspector General of Police in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.

The team’s task is to check illegal confinements in police stations and review the overall performance of the province’s police. The team has been instructed to carry out surprise inspections of police stations throughout the province and report any irregularities discovered. In this regard, eight inspection teams paid a surprise visit to various police stations in Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera and Mardan on Wednesday night.

They have sent their report to the IG, who stated that departmental action will be initiated against officials found guilty of dereliction of duty. The IG further directed all regional and district police officers to strictly discourage illegal confinement and take necessary action against violators. He asked officials to take extra measures to bring positive changes in the overall performance of police stations to build public trust.
