ISLAMABAD:

The budget for fiscal year 2013-14 suggests that the government seems less than ever interested in the promotion of cultural heritage.

According to a budgetary document issued here on Wednesday, Rs5 million has been allocated for the upgradation of National
Arts Gallery (NAG) in the Pakistan National Council of Arts (PNCA).

The ministry’s two ongoing schemes, namely Preparation of Database of Paintings and Artworks and Setting up Laboratory and Restoration of Damaged Paintings and Artworks at NAG, had a combined cost of Rs45.7 million, a combined expenditure of Rs24.4 and a combined throw-forward of Rs21.2.

A new scheme, Upgradation of Security of NAG, had an estimated cost of Rs14.5 million.
