MUMBAI:

Mumbai police said on Tuesday that they are awaiting medical reports of Bollywood actor Jiah Khan to ascertain if she had undergone an abortion or been assaulted by her boyfriend, actor Aditya Pancholi’s son Sooraj Pancholi, as alleged in her letter.

Khan, of Nishabh fame, committed suicide on June 4 leaving behind a six-page letter, which was found three days after her suicide, by her mother Rabia Amin and was later handed to the police. In light of the abortion, which Khan had mentioned in her suicide note, a Mumbai police officer said that they have identified the hospital where the actor was treated and are awaiting the medical reports to take the case further.

“It is there in the suicide note, but then till the time it is not corroborated, we can’t do anything,” said the officer, who did not want to be identified. The medical reports will prove whether she had been hit or not, he said. Mumbai police are also trying to crack the actor’s mobile phone to check the messages she had exchanged with Sooraj.

Amin has also written in her statement to the police that Khan and Sooraj were in a live-in relationship for about a year, the officer said.

Sooraj, son of actor couple Aditya Pancholi and Zarina Wahab, was arrested on Monday after being booked under penal provisions for allegedly abetting Khan’s suicide. On Tuesday, he was sent to police custody till June 13 by a Mumbai court.

Zameer Khan, Sooraj’s lawyer, told reporters, “We are completely supporting the police for the investigation since day one. We have submitted Sooraj’s laptop, phone and iPad also.”

“He will be in custody till June 13. So far, the charge sheet has not been filed,” he said, soon after Sooraj was presented before a magistrate. The arrest came barely two days after Khan’s family handed over her suicide note to the police.
