A member of the Ahmedi community was shot dead while his son and another companion were injured in a targeted attack in Soldier Bazaar on Tuesday evening.
The victims were identified as Hamid Sami, 45, his son, Osama, 18, and a companion, Salman Zaman, 48. They were shot multiple times by unidentified men who escaped from the scene.
The police said Sami and Zaman were returning home. “A protest against load-shedding was being staged on MA Jinnah Road so they chose to take an alternative route,” DSP Zameer Abbasi told The Express Tribune. “Armed men on motorcycles, who had apparently been following the victims’ car, took advantage of the narrow streets and opened fire.” Police officials believe that the incident was a continuation of the targeted killings of Ahmedis. DSP Abbasi added Zaman was not an Ahmedi.
Separately, a Mohajir Qaumi Movement-Haqiqi worker, Noman Iqbal, 33, was killed by unknown men in a targeted attack in Shah Faisal Colony.

Pakistan can never be a safe land for minorities. A second incident i witnessed in a single day.Sympathies with aggrieved family.
@AlChemist: In your response to @Weird you say that there is more implementation of law in Britain than in India or Pakistan. It is not just the implementation of the law alone, but the law itself that is the problem. Post independence Pakistan's best and most adored politician Bhutto himself made these laws and the school text books are written by learned Pakistanis.
Unfortunately, no one can change these laws anytime in the future as the hatred has spread far too wide and deep.
When the Chief Justice takes Suo Moto action on a lady carrying a bottle of alcohol in her purse, you can see the state this country has come to.
Very Sad !!! Very Sad !!!! These Ahmadis were in the forefront during Partition . Now who will save you ? No Hindu , No Sikh , No Christian , Not even Shias . Now seek asylum in some other democratic or non-Islamic country . Because you are not allowed in any Islamic country . Yesterday in Syria , Rebels (reported to be Sunnis) have killed 60 soldiers(believed to be Shias). Poor Ahmadis !!!!!
@Weird:
Can you say that if women in South Asian Subcontinent had opposed the end of British rule, human rights for women in today's India would have been a lot better? For one thing, there is more implementation of law in Britain than in India or Pakistan.
What Ahmadis and other minorities did for Pakistan was under the auspices and ideology of Muhammad Ali Jinnah. If you get a chance to read his biography or his statements about Pakistan, you will see how much of a different Pakistan we have today that is almost contrary to the vision of Jinnah.
@Aysha: @Constitutional Kafir: My comments were blocked as per ET policy. You cannot write anything true about ahmedis. Otherwise I had sufficiently replied to your questions.
@Weird: Couldn't have said it better. You're the MAN!
@Weird: so true and repenting
Quaid e Azam said, "You are free; you are free to go to your temples, you are free to go to your mosques or to any other places of worship in this State of Pakistan." 11 AUGUST 1947 i want to Quaid's pakistan. may allah help us
@Weird:
"I think Ahmedis should blame their own ancestors for this violence. They were in the forefront of the Pakistani movement and were responsible for the polarization especially in Punjab, where Muslims, Hindus and Sikhs lived side by side. It’s ironic how the people who wanted a separate country for Muslims ended up as non-Muslims in that country."
As sad as it is to see innocent Ahmedis and Shia getting killed for their religious beliefs, what you say is true. The Ahmedis, Shia and even many Christians were strong proponents of the Pakistan movement. Yes, it is indeed ironic. Little did these groups know back then that they would, one day, reap what they sowed.
Having said that, I hope human rights condition for these unfortunate minorities in Pakistan will improve sooner than later.
@ashar: Religion should not be brought in the public domain. State and religion need to be separated
In 1974, an unprecedented event in the history of modern legislation took place .
Religion was brought in the public domain to the effect that a sect of Islam was legislated to be non-muslim.
This laid the foundation of religious intolerance in Pakistan, first it determined whether individuals are muslims or non- mslims, so Ahmedis were the first victims.
Then it moved on to identify who is a good muslim and the not-so-good muslims, then Shias were axed as a community and it continues to date
Then came a point where after having identified the not-so-good muslims (not shias), they were eliminated, hence the murder of Salmaan Taseer.
Anybody who claims to be a muslim should be considered a muslim, Allah alone will decide about the muslimness of an individual, no mullah' with rainbow pughrees need to do that for us.
Despicable act of barbarism.
@ashar: Ahmadis are imprisoned for posing as Muslims which certainly has no limit anyone can call anything equivalent to posing as Muslims. State has made laws for persecute them. This may help to understand http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ordinance_XX
RIP. I think Ahmedis should blame their own ancestors for this violence. They were in the forefront of the Pakistani movement and were responsible for the polarization especially in Punjab, where Muslims, Hindus and Sikhs lived side by side. It's ironic how the people who wanted a separate country for Muslims ended up as non-Muslims in that country.
ET moderator please allow.
@Z.Khan: Dear brother, I understand your pain and sorrow, but I am sure you will have some excellent friends who do not believe in these differences and know each other only as Pakistanis, I am one of those and I have very good friends from every walk of life, who will be willing to do any thing for me, as I will stand always with them shoulder to shoulder. And I know majority of Pakistanis do not care or ask any identity before developing friendship. But this discrimination does exist, I know it, I have seen and openly opposed it, and this is from a very little minority, and unfortunately the same minority in every religion is busy in further spreading this plague, because this is the source for their bread and butter. Lets condemn this terrorism as Pakistanis, lets condole the family of the deceased showing, being related to them and lets help them by all and every mean to overcome the sorrow of this terrible loss in their lives. I know it is hard but if we can remain only as Pakistanis and condemn these types of actions, very soon these mafias who bread on divide and rule, will die their own death.
very saad
@Constitutional kafir: How?
Guys, matter of ahmedis and shias are entirely different. One is non Muslim while the other is a sect of Islam. Please don't mix them. It is right that minorities should have all the rights in Pakistan and they do most of the times but as for shias, please don't make a point.
@Saad: because he was killed due to his faith. other dozens of people are killed due to gas cylinder blast or mobile snatching etc...so, you see its important to highlight why someone is being killed.
@Z.Khan: You say: "Because Ahmadi and Shia are the targets of extremist Muslims. "
Totally wrong and contrary to facts. Every child is taught hatred for Ahmedis in every school in Pakistan, be it government school or private school. Most of the Pakistan society are extremists. Religious leaders may preach hatred but most of the society practice it. Every Pakistani muslim learns hatred for others in regular schools and these hate teachings are going up every year. The mullas are not revising the school text books. It is the educated Pakistanis who are reviewing these text books and adding more to the hate literature. Government set up so many enquiry commissions for example, atrocities committed on hindus, burning down of entire townships of christians repeatedly, killing shias by slitting their throat and posting it in internet. No commission has ever produced even one report. Why? Because most educated and moderate muslims of Pakistan support these inhumane acts along with extremists. At one time, I used to believe that it is only the extremists and religious leaders. I no longer do so, and so do most others.
@Zahid: You have to support your claim. As Raj from USA wrote pertaining to number of killings of minoirities. To you all Ahmmadi, Shia and Christian killings are due to property disputes. Please have some sanity.
@rashid nadeem: And look at the discrimination, entire constitution is only against Ahmadis. They are imprisoned for just using Islamic greetings.
@Saad: As this question to your local Mullah!
look at the discrimination entire story covers the ahmadi victim and just a single line for the non ahmadi victim
Lala Gee should know that more Shias and Ahmedis are killed every year than the total number of muslims killed in India in the entire 65 years. Ahmedis, Shias and Christians face Gujarat every day in Pakistan. He would not care as he is still busy with Saachar Commission report. I have never read even one comment from Lala Gee condemning unequivocally, the killings of Shias or Ahmedis or Christians in Pakistan. Kaalchakra would even defend these acts and give religious justifications / reasons.
@Saad: May be because no other community has faced such hatred of people and state.
It was a property dispute, not every minority member murdered is killed because of his faith.
@Avatar: What is so good? Murder? If that is what you mean, your comment should be removed.
RIP, so sad. It has become habit of so called 'muslim fanatics' to target the weakest and most vulnerables. A big time shame to the great religion of Islam that teaches protection of not only minorities rather any human being. Where is Nawaz Sharif who in his opening address pledged to protect the rights of minorities.
@Saad: Because Ahmadi and Shia are the targets of extremist Muslims. ET always mentions when any Shia or Ahmadi is killed in target killings. Political killings are different. Members of these two communities are killed just becasue of religious belief and having no other reason. It is like murder of innocent humanity. These atrocities having no justifiction as such are highlighted by mentioning the religious entitiy for the attention of civil society. Hope some times a strong voice of civil society will rise against these cruelties. Allah may rest the departed souls in peace. Amin.
Inna Lillahi wa inna ilaihi rajeun. May he rest in peace
Karachi has become a volcano of political and ethnic violence which may erupt at any time. Thanks to the so called stakeholders of Karachi!.
Good!
R.I.P!
Why AHMEDI is highlighted in this news? Dozens of people are killed daily in Karachi and you never mentioned their Communities...But Why Ahmedi?
